Trivia

The film's subject matter was conceived of when Christopher Nolan was joined by his brother Jonathan on a late summer cross-country road trip, as Christopher was moving to Los Angeles and Jonathan had time before returning to his studies at Georgetown to spend time with his brother and help with with the move. By the time they arrived in L.A., the entire screenplay had been stated out loud between the brothers. See more »

Goofs

Sammy Jankis is reported as having "possible damage in the hippocampus, nothing conclusive" but the CT scan of his brain shown at the time is grossly abnormal. It shows a large left sided subdural haematoma (bleed) with significant mass effect. It is very likely that a patient with such a scan would be seriously unwell. However, since Sammy is a fabrication of Leonard's memory, it is highly likely that this brain scan is in fact a scan of his own brain, fitting the description of bleeding. See more »

Alternate Versions

In the Alliance Atlantis DVD (distributed in Canada), a "Chronological Scene Index" is available from the "Main Menu," to the right of "Set-Up," on the crossed-out "Reverse." This index provides the scenes in their true chronological order, but, apparently, each scene must be selected to be played. See more »

Its not a gimmick, its something new
9 May 2001 | by jbparkerSee all my reviews

Yes, it's true. The entire movie is based on a gimmick. However, I honestly feel that this does not cheapen the picture in the slightest bit. I loved every scene; discovering information as our lead character discovered it. It demands a second and third viewing, as there are many subtleties and quick flashes that may not be picked up on the first time around. Its one of the most original films ever made, and for people who scoff at the concept of not having a short-term memory, it actually is a real condition. Watch this movie. And, please pay attention. The performances are wonderful, and its structured magnificently.
