Salman's next is undoubtedly the most talked about film in the media at the moment. We are referring to the film named Mental (earlier titled Radhe) that's being directed by his brother Sohail Khan. Even though there are no names that have been confirmed for the female lead, there's news that Tabu will be seen playing Salman's elder sister in the film. Readers may recollect that Tabu had earlier worked in many Salman starrers, viz., Jeet, Biwi No. 1 and Hum Saath Saath Hain, although she was never paired opposite to him in any of these. The official announcement of the same is awaited.

The one thing that can safely be said about the mercurial Salman Khan is that he is a yaaron ka yaar. Having done a number of very successful films with David Dhawan including the career-defining Judwaa and Biwi No. 1, Salman has over the years, become so close to Dhawan that it's generally a toss-up as to who's a closer to David: Govinda or Salman. Govinda was in Goa for David's son Rohit's wedding yesterday (Friday). Salman, alas, couldn't make it. Shooting in far-off Cuba for Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, Salman actually planned to travel back to Goa for a day and attend the wedding before flying back. Says a source close to David, "David was very keen to have Salman over. He spoke to Salman and Salman spoke to Kabir to be allowed to fly back. But the travel plan from Havana to Goa sounded too gruelling.

There was a time in the Hindi film industry when idealism was highly valued. From Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa to V. Shantaram’s Do Aankhen Baarah Haath, from Mehboob Khan’s Mother India to Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Satyakam, the protaganists were people who lived and died for their ideals. Their idealism was stubborn even though it gave them great personal pain.
Things started changing in the 70s when the hardships of stubborn idealism gave birth to personal frustration in the new generation – which found an outlet in the angry young man persona. At the same time, the hippy culture was bringing in a new wave of individualism. The youngsters of the era started turning rebels which was well captured by Raj Kapoor in Bobby, which had teenage lovers rejecting their parents authority and eloping. At that point of time, I distinctly remember, people had scoffed at Vashu, calling him overconfident and brash. But Vashu's calculations proved right as Biwi No. 1 withstood the tough competition from cricket matches and emerged victorious at the box-office. In fact, back then, Biwi No. 1 set new records at practically every centre, quashing the myth that films can't withstand the tough competition from cricket. The enterprising film-maker has now decided to pitch his next film Faltu during the cricket matches - during the peak of World Cup fever, next year. Vashu has confirmed 1 April as the release date of Faltu... and this is no April Fool joke. "I have tremendous confidence in my film. It has shaped up exceedingly well," Vashu informs me. But won't the clash with crucial cricket matches affect the business of his film?...
