- On the show, the main character, Spongebob, has times where he acts like he is in love with Squidward, and others references make many people think SpongeBob is gay, but the creator announced that Spongebob is actually Asexual.
- Sandy and some other female characters are frequently shown in bikinis. Additionally some male characters are frequently seen in their underwear or swimsuits, but always in a non sexual context.
- In one episode, Spongebob and Patrick are briefly seen wearing g-strings at the beach. In the same episode, the plot revolves around Spongebob being embarrassed about his grandma kissing him (on his forehead).
- Some episodes feature twerking in a non sexual context.
- In one episode, SpongeBob puts his underwear over his head and his nose is portrayed like an erection.
- SpongeBob has pantyhose and puts over his head. When he does, his head briefly turns into a woman's leg.
- One episode had Patrick sign a woman's breast (onscreen). Another episode had the same thing where a student asked if she could have an autograph from Tony Jr. Since she doesn't have any paper, it is implied that she wanted him to sign her breasts.
- In one episode, a woman is playing with a loaf of bread like an accordion. As she's doing this, she also appears to be topless.
- In the episode which had SpongeBob wear long pants, a boy asks his mother if he (SpongeBob) was his father. The camera pans to the mother and, with a lustful look, says, "I wish".
- Squidward puts a vial near his crotch and inks in it (similar to a urine test). He even asks for privacy right before he does it.
- The Flying Dutchman is seen hitting on a female fish at a party. She eyes him skeptically and asks him "Is that a wedding ring?!"
- Sandy has to fight a French martial artist named "The Tickler". Also, in the same episode, Sandy faces off against Udon and expands her giant muscles while wearing nothing but a bikini.
- Near the end of an episode, everyone, except for Sandy, is naked.
- After Squidward tells them to "do as they're told, or they'll incur the wrath of his ghost", Patrick says he thinks they make a cream for that now.
- Plankton asks if SpongeBob had all-over tan, and SpongeBob replies, "Not all of me".
- In the episode "My Pretty Seahorse", Scooter approaches Mystery and thinks it's a kiddie ride. He says he couldn't find the coin slot, then says, "Here it is", prompting Mystery to kick him. The implication is that Mystery is a girl.
- This show has tons of hidden adult jokes in it, but they will go right over little kids heads. It's mostly the older seasons with hidden messages
- Plankton replaces the original Karen for a sleeker wife. The second Karen has curves and a big bum. She is meant to look more seductive than the original.
- Sandy ponders about SpongeBob's pubic hair.
- Mature jokes are seen and told throughout the series, along with mild to moderate innuendos and themes. However, the fact that most of the situations take place between fantasy characters act as a mitigating circumstance. These jokes include abortions, blowjobs, popping somebody's cherry, menstruation, promiscuity, prostitution, STD, and so on.
- In some episodes, they talk about bras.
- No severe nudity. But some characters are seen in their underpants.
- In one episode, SpongeBob looks for his pen in his underwear, but he looks for it at the front side.
- As a compliment to one of Patrick's ideas, Spongebob tells Patrick that his "genius" is showing, prompting Patrick to cover his crotch.
- A bespectacled Tom Kenny (the voice of SpongeBob) is seen in a bathing cap screaming (only his top half is shown).
- SpongeBob is seen watching a television show where we see a live-action sea creature moving around. He stares with interest and quickly changes to the sports channel when Gary enters the room. This appears to be a reference to porn. Also, in Squids Day Off, Squidward was in the middle of taking a bath. Squidward thought Spongebob was doing something wrong so he ran to the Krusty Krab Naked. With Bubbles Censoring.
- When SpongeBob hands Gary two bars of soap, he says "don't drop them" and winks as a reference to prison rape.
- This episode is centered around the romance between Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff. There are references to Mr. Krabs finding Mrs. Puff attractive and she gives him a kiss.
- Mr. Krabs joins SpongeBob and Patrick on a panty raid, unaware that they are going to steal from Krabs' elderly mother.
- SpongeBob and Patrick are naked for most of the episode. At the end, Mr. Krabs exposes them in front of Mrs. Puff, Sandy, and the townspeople. They cover the areas each other's crotches in embarassment.
- Several innuendos involving the word "weiner."
- Rear ends are seen in many episodes, always for comic relief.
- There are several episodes that feature flirting.
Violence & Gore

- Plankton tries to commit suicide by lying in the road waiting for a car to come by and run him over. It's more of a plot point than a joke.
- Squidward becomes depressed after he realizes that he has no happy memories. In his house, he steps on a stool, holding a rope and says, "Maybe this will help." He then pulls the rope down and it is revealed that on the other end of the rope was a bird cage. This is meant to be a suicide joke, though it will probably go over childrens' heads.
- In "Don't Look Now", SpongeBob and Patrick thinks about the fisherman. Squidward tries to scare them by dressing up as the fisherman. That's the same one that Mr. Krabs tries to scare SpongeBob by using a paper ghost.
- Most violence are just for humour porpoises. Though can get a little much.
- Some instances of random slapstick humor, such as a character being thrown off a cliff and exploding in a mushroom cloud (twice).
- Punching, kicking and wrestling in a cloud of dust.
- The interior of the characters is often fantastically seen.
- Spongebob has ripped out Squidward's toenail before. With blood and the roots of the nail seen.
- Spongebob touches Squidward heart and it started to spray blood.
- Spongebob has a horrible splinter in his thumb. We see a close up of his thumb being impaled and being horribly engorged with blood and pus.
- Characters are seen getting stung by jellyfish, resulting in swollen red bumps on their skin.
- Mrs. Puff enters Spongebob in a demolition derby to be rid of him, hoping that he is destroyed in the ensuing wreckage.
- A running gag involving Plankton being injured or stepped on due to his size.
- In the original airings of "Just One Bite" Squidward is seen trying to break into the Krusty Krab, and is doused in gas he is set on fire twice. Subsequent airings edit it to Squidward already approaching the Patty vault. The main reason this was edited out is due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the aftermath.

- In later seasons, the word "shrimp" is used and appears as an euphemism for "shit"
- In "Teacher's Pests", Plankton tells Mr. Krabs to "get bent".
- In "Welcome to the Chum Bucket" a robot designed like SpongeBob with his brain in it says to Plankton "Get welded!", which can be a euphemism for "Get fucked!"
- In "Employee of the Month", as Squidward is badmouthing the award, the meat from the fan hits Squidward, accompanied with a "fffft!" sound, implying he was going to say "s--t".
- In "Texas", SpongeBob shakes his butt as he says "Tex-aaaaassss"!
- In "Employee Of The Month", Squidward says "bunch of h..." (It's implied that Squidward was going to say "hippie-dippie baloney).
- Every strong cursing is censored by a dolphin noise.
- The word "nipples" is said in one episode.
- In "Squirrel Jokes", SpongeBob used squirrel jokes to make fun of sands
- "Dang" And "gosh" are heard.
- Clearly, in "Sailor Mouth", bad word #11 (The most used word) is the F-Word. Censored with miscellaneous sounds.
- Stupid, idiot, barnacle-head, barnacles, kill, fish paste, tartar sauce, shrimp, moron and punk are frequently used. Darn, heck, butt are infrequently used.
- In later seasons, the word chum becomes a euphemism for the "s" word.
- In "Sailor Mouth," it is implied that SpongeBob and Patrick learnt "bad word #11" and started using it everywhere, even though it was all censored but it is never confirmed what the word is as it is covered up with dolphin noises. On the trashcan it says "Krabs is a...," and SpongeBob mentions the hidden bad word, though it was censored and we don't know which one it was. The moral of the episode advises against swearing.
- In "Krusty Love" SpongeBob's patience is tested and he ends up saying alot of unintelligible gibberish, this is meant to be an equivalent of swearing. Even Mrs. Puff is seen thumbing through a dictionary and blushing.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

- In many episodes when there are fancy parties or restaurants, glasses of shampane angelina wine can be seen, especially in "Goodbye, Krabby Patty?."
- In one episode, SpongeBob says, "I need a break" and goes outside and starts blowing bubbles. The way he does this is very obviously similar to smoking.
- In "Code Yellow", SpongeBob asks other doctors to hand him a "medical sea chicken" For those who don't know, a "chicken" is slang for marijuana.
- Some people smokes bubble pipes.
- In a certain episode, Mr.Krabs has a pickle between his teeth, he pretends to act like it's a cigar.
- Spongebob occasionally smokes a bubble pipe to appear sophisticated.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- In "Clams", the portrayal of Mr. Krabs without his millionth dollar can be disturbing for younger viewers.
- Some sad scenes in most episodes, especially the "Where's Gary?" episode.
- "The Splinter" is notorious for being very gross.
- This show can get fairly violent at times. There are several instances of slapstick humor, but it can get quite intense sometimes. Characters use pipes, axes, knives, saws, guns, explosives. Also, there are lots of nasty-looking close-ups often portrayed in graphic detail.
- In the original airings of "The Snowball Effect, Squidward built a snow dungeon with sacrificed snowmans seen. Due to which, Nickelodeon won't let the audience see it. So, they don't let the audience see it.
- In "Clams", the clam may be violent which will scare younger viewers. Due to which, the clam from the episode looks like the shark from the movie "Jaws". Even the scene where Mr. Krabs lost his one millionth dollar may upset some viewers.
- In the episode "SpongeBob Meets the Strangler", the Tattletale Strangler tries to strangle SpongeBob, which will scare young viewers.
- In "Have You Seen This Snail" SpongeBob is trying to beat the Dirty Bubble challenge. Meanwhile, since Gary is still hungry, he runs away from home which is super emotional.
- In the episode "Spongebob You're Fired!", the portrayal Spongebob fired from the Krusty Krab will upset some viewers. Fortunately, SpongeBob is rehired in the Krusty Krab again.
- In the original airings of "Scaredy Pants", The Flying Dutchman took of SpongeBob's ghost costume and they let theme see SpongeBob's scary look. Due to the violence, Nickelodeon won't allow them to let the audience see SpongeBob like this. Unfortunately, they let the scene cut due to the violence.
- In one episode, "Bummer Vacation", SpongeBob becomes insane after discovering that Mr. Krabs wants to replace him, so he corners Patrick and acts like a psychopath while breaking out into demented cackling. This may scare some.
- In "Have You Seen My Snail?", Spongebob is strongly devastated about his loss of Gary. The absolute "cringiest" moment is when you get a close up on Spongebob's emotion-packed and broken up face, and the screen gets even closer to show his insides which is his heart on an antique clock. This can make people squeamish. Scared me as a kid.
- Occasional mild suicide jokes.
- Squidward often seems depressed and sometimes suicidal.
- A couple of very detailed and scary hand-painted faces, some creatures, peril.
- The Flying Dutchman uses lots of scary tricks. In one scene a ghost turns into a clown then a monster and is quite scary.
- Squidward tells a story about The Hash Slinging Slasher. The story could be frightening to kids. The story turns out to be a fable, but the last-minute appearance of Nosferatu would certainly scare younger audiences.
- Some scenes of mild bullying could be found upsetting.
- In the episode "Wormy" there's a scene where the body of a live-action horsefly accompanied by buzzing sounds can be seen in a close up. This can be very disturbing for people especially those who have fears of insects.
- The "Nasty Patty" is a pretty dark episode, but it's mostly because of dark humor.
- The controversial episode "One Coarse Meal" involves Mr. Krabs driving Plankton to suicide. Although this should be handled seriously, it is instead handled in a comedic manner, and Mr. Krabs is rewarded for his actions, which will upset many viewers.
- The episode "Demolition Doofus" may upset some because of Mrs. Puff's unusual sociopath behavior.
- "Bossy Boots" has a split second scene where Pearl and SpongeBob try to come up with a new name for The Krusty Krab. SpongeBob comes up with "The Kreepy Krab" which depicts him as a mad scientist holding a mutated crab. He then comes up with "The Killer Krab" which shows him with a rather barbaric appearance. This scene is super quick and easy to miss.
- The episode "Gary Takes a Bath" has a scene were a face of a girl with pigtails smiling pops up almost like a jumpscare, this may be frightening to some.
- The original version of "Shanghaied" that was shown in theaters before a movie, has Squidward thrown into a demonic atmosphere known as "the fly of despair", originally skulls and skeleton remains were seen when Squidward was falling through. When the time came for the episode to air Nickelodeon replaced the skeletal images with a stock photo of spaghetti.
