After playing sex crimes investigator Olivia Benson for so many years, Hargitay tells “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah that fans now feel comfortable sharing their own stories of sexual abuse with her. “I think that this fictionalized character maybe was the first person that showed empathy and compassion, and they knew that Olivia was always for the victim first and felt safe there. Hopefully now that is indeed changing.”

Cynthia Nixon, who announced her NY gubernatorial candidacy on Monday, is just missing the Oscar from her Egot quest. She won the first of the top showbiz awards in 2004 for “Sex and the City” and received the statuette from another TV star-turned-politician: Donald Trump.

Remember, this was 2004, aka the height of the popularity of “The Apprentice.” Trump and Simon Cowell presented Nixon with the Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy for her portrayal of Miranda Hobbes on the final season of the HBO hit. Last year, Nixon told Variety that she had forgotten about the handoff.

‘Underground’ Alum Amirah Vann to Star in Regina King, Robin Roberts ABC Drama Pilot
Amirah Vann has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming ABC drama pilot that hails from executive producers Robin Roberts and Regina King, Variety has confirmed.

The untitled series will follow five African-American sisters, all officers in the NYPD, as they face the challenges of their high-risk jobs while juggling the responsibilities of marriage, motherhood and family. Vann will star as Ella, who patrols her childhood neighborhood in Queens. The character is described as a stand-up cop who goes out of her way to prove that police officers can still be good guys who treat people fairly.

Vann received critical praise when she starred as Miss Ernestine in the Wgn America Underground Railroad drama “Underground.” She recently also appeared in shows like “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Major Crimes,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” She will also appear in USA Network’s “Unsolved: the Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.”

Rip Reg E. Cathey: 1958-2018

Actor Reg E. Cathey sadly passed away over the weekend. The seasoned actor, who most recently appeared in House Of Cards, but was a veteran of the screen for the past four decades, was battling cancer.

Cathey was also known for his work on the HBO series The Wire, but also had roles in the likes of Grimm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Outcast, superhero movie Fantastic Four, Seven and more over his career.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of our friend and House of Cards colleague Reg E. Cathey,” said Netflix in a statement. “Reg was the kindest man, the most giving actor, a true gentlemen. Our sympathy goes to his family.”

The Wire’s David Simon also paid tribute on Twitter over the weekend.

R.I.P. Reg E. Cathey (1958 – 2018)

American actor Reg E. Cathey, known for his work on The Wire and House of Cards, has passed away aged 59 after a battle with cancer.

Cathey began his career in 1984 with an appearance in the TV movie A Doctor’s Story, and went on to appear in numerous TV shows such as Oz, The Wire, Grimm, The Divide, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Outcast.

The actor gained critical acclaim for his role as Freddy in Netflix’s House of Cards, receiving an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in 2015 alongside further nominations in 2014 and 2016.

On the big screen, Cathey’s credits included parts in The Mask, Se7en, Tank Girl, American Psycho, The Machinist, and Fantastic Four. He also earned praise for his role as Red in a 2009. London theatrical production of The Shawshank Redemption.
