Storyline

The lives of three young people - a rich student, a girl from the "wrong side of the tracks" and her boyfriend - unexpectedly intersect during one fateful summer in the romantic drama "Here on Earth." Kelley Morse (Chris Klein), who is cocky and brash, normally would never have crossed paths with the residents of a small town near his posh private school. But when he takes his shiny new Mercedes out for a drive, he locks horns with some of the locals, including Jasper (Josh Hartnett). As Jasper's willful girlfriend Samantha (Leelee Sobieski) looks on, Kelley and Jasper engage in a dangerous car race that turns disastrous, leaving a popular diner owned by Samantha's mother in ruins. Kelley and Jasper are sentenced to a creatively ironic but fitting punishment: They must help rebuild the diner. Not only does this ruin Kelley's summer plans, he also must board at the home of his rival, Jasper. Kelley begins to fulfill his "sentence," but refuses to have anything to do with Jasper and his... A Silly, Corny and Tragic Love Story
28 February 2004 | by claudio_carvalhoSee all my reviews

Samantha Cavanaugh (Leelee Sobieski) works in her family's restaurant and is the sweetheart of Jasper Arnold (Josh Hartnett). One day, Kelley Morse (Chris Klein), a spoiled rich young man goes to her restaurant, and challenges and offends Jasper. They dispute a car race, ending tragically with the destruction of a gas station and the Cavanaugh's restaurant. They are arrested and the judge sentences both to rebuild the place. Kelly moves temporarily to the location and Samantha falls in love with him. Then, she finds she has cancer and the story has a tragic and predictable end. I watched this movie just because of the teen stars (Josh Hartnett, Leelee Sobieski and Chris Klein). Indeed the film works until the judgement. Then, Sam has a crush on a selfish, spoiled and empty character without any explanation or special reason. Further, she spends most of the time running, and suddenly it is revealed that she has an incurable cancer on her leg and she is going to die. Although having a good cast, the screenplay is very ridiculous. My vote is five.
