Calling All Regé-Jean Page Fans, the Duke of Hastings Just Signed On to a Pretty Major Film

Calling All Regé-Jean Page Fans, the Duke of Hastings Just Signed On to a Pretty Major Film
The portrayer of everyone's favorite fictional duke (if that is indeed a thing), Regé-Jean Page, is coming back to our screens for a brand-new iteration of Dungeons & Dragons, a fantasy tabletop game that was the basis of a 2000 film of the same name. While there is set to be a TV series launching with the same title, this film is a stand-alone project that's due for release next year. The Bridgerton actor will be starring alongside Chris Pine, Justice Smith, and Michelle Rodriguez but will be taking a "leading role," as reported by Radio Times.

According to producer Roy Lee, the new Dungeons & Dragons is "a Guardians of the Galaxy-tone movie in a Tolkien-like universe" and "a Raiders [of the Lost Ark] romp inside that world." Admittedly, it's quite the change from dukes and dances, but we're still looking forward to seeing Page take center stage. Full details of the film

Regé-Jean Page has nabbed a leading role in the film adaptation of “Dungeons & Dragons,” Variety has confirmed.

The fantasy adventure will be Page’s follow-up to his breakout role in Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” on which he causes hearts to flutter, corsets to loosen and generally monopolizes the lusts and affections of a broad swath of Regency-era England as the Duke of Hastings, a slightly rakish, very rich and extremely eligible bachelor. The show has been a water cooler sensation and was streamed on 82 million accounts, a record for Netflix. Page also recently announced he will host “Saturday Night Live.” This month, he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work on “Bridgerton.”

‘Onward’ Director Dan Scanlon Subverts Fantasy Tropes, Channels Pain Into Art With His “Love Letter To Siblings”

‘Onward’ Director Dan Scanlon Subverts Fantasy Tropes, Channels Pain Into Art With His “Love Letter To Siblings”
With Onward, writer/director Dan Scanlon made magic out of a profound personal experience, using his understanding of loss as a foundation, from which he’d craft a quest story like none other.

The second Disney/Pixar animated feature from Scanlon, following 2013’s Monsters University, centers on Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Chris Pratt), elven brothers in search of a magical artifact that will bring their father back to life for a day.

One of few films in 2020 experienced as intended, Onward enjoyed a splashly premiere in Berlin and debuted in theaters across the world in early March. Subsequently, with the enormous degree of loss brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, Scanlon’s film would only become more timely—his notion of channeling pain into art, all the more resonant.

“A big part of the film is about, there’s things you want in life and people you want to be with,

‘Riverdale’ Flashes Forward to a Grim Future of Broken Hearts and Dreams, as Was Probably Inevitable
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Purgatorio,” the fourth episode of Season 5 of The CW’s “Riverdale.”

The most consistent feature of “Glee” throughout its seven seasons was a hyper speed recap of previous events that played at the beginning of every episode. Every week, the list of “what you missed on ‘Glee’!” got longer and more headspinningly ridiculous as the show itself became more overtly bizarre. If you missed a single chapter, it seemed you might lose track of what was happening on the show entirely. And if you decided to drop back in after a couple seasons away … well, forget it. In fact, “Glee” became so notoriously over the top that now, six years after its series finale, there’s a thriving subgenre of TikToks devoted to people reacting to its wild plot twists.

When I think of “Riverdale,” created by “Glee” alum Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, I’m

Entertainment One Lays Off 10% of Film, TV Workforce Amid Streamlining

Entertainment One Lays Off 10% of Film, TV Workforce Amid Streamlining
Hasbro-owned Entertainment One is letting go of 10% of its film and TV staff, Variety has confirmed.

According to a memo from eOne’s head of film and TV, Steve Bertram, the layoffs come amid a move to “evolve the focus and structure of our organization around the world” and comes in response to the “significant disruption the traditional studio model was experiencing as the technology giants invested heavily in their platforms and the creation of original content,” which has been accelerated by the pandemic.

Recent years have seen the cementing of heavily vertically integrated entertainment companies, from Disney to AT&T-owned WarnerMedia to Comcast-owned NBCUniversal, which have all launched streaming services.

Entertainment One, which was acquired by Hasbro in an all-cash $3.8 billion deal, shuttered its German theatrical distribution operation last fall and in 2019 halted direct theatrical distribution in Australia and New Zealand. Since being acquired by Hasbro, eOne
