Woody Harrelson to star as Admiral Nimitz in 'Midway'

Agc Studios to handle Cannes sales. Production set for August 16 start.

Woody Harrelson will star as Admiral Chester Nimitz in Roland Emmerich’s Second World War feature Midway, which Stuart Ford’s Agc Studios will introduce to international buyers in Cannes next week.

Starlight Entertainment Group and Providence Entertainment Limited are financing the feature, which will also star Mandy Moore and is already set up for theatrical distribution in the Us through Lionsgate / Summit, and in Greater China Bona Film Group.

The project marks the second tentpole sales title for Agc in Cannes. Last week Ford announced his new venture

Production set for August 16 start.

Stuart Ford’s Agc Studios has boarded its second major sales title for Cannes and will introduce international buyers to the Roland Emmerich Second World War tentpole Midway in Cannes next week.

Starlight Entertainment Group and Providence Entertainment Limited are financing the feature, which will star Woody Harrelson and Mandy Moore and is already set up for theatrical distribution in the Us through Lionsgate / Summit, and in Greater China Bona Film Group.

CAA’s media finance group brokered the financing and distribution deals.

Emmerich’s directing credits include Independence Day, 2012, Godzilla, and White House Down.

Holed up in a local bar opposite Cowes yacht basin and looking out at glorious sunshine I find myself Transatlantic with Dean Devlin. Producer, writer, director and independent filmmaker of blockbuster tent poles including Independence Day, Stargate, Godzilla and The Patriot. With his latest directorial effort Bad Samaritan, we find him out of that comfort zone, deep in thriller territory and taking a certain Doctor along for the ride.

First we discussed what drew him to that material. From his slightly colder New York locale he discussed how Brandon Boyce, screenwriter for Apt Pupil, had come to him with the finished script looking for a second opinion. Having been friends for years Dean was only asked for his thoughts never thinking that the material might appeal. Having finished the piece he told me how he felt excited to the point of signing on to direct immediately.

Eva Green, Oscar-winner Kathy Bates and Ed Skrein are set to star in the sci-fi thriller A Patriot.

Film sales and financing firm The Exchange will introduce the indie, to be directed by Dan Pringle, to foreign buyers at Cannes. Pringle and Toby Rushton wrote the screenplay for The Patriot, with Adam Merrifield and John Giwa-Amu producing and Angus Finney executive producing.

HBO's Paterno Trailer Stars Al Pacino as Late Penn State Coach

HBO has released the first full trailer for their Paterno drama, which stars Al Pacino as Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and details the drama surrounding the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal. In the newly released trailer of Paterno, directed by Barry Levinson, light is shed on the chaos and pressure that Joe Paterno faced after Sandusky's sexual abuse scandal. The trailer alludes that Paterno may have known more about the allegations than he let on and shows the university in turmoil. In addition to Al Pacino, the movie also stars Riley Keough, Greg Grunberg, Kathy Baker, and Annie Parisse.

Roland Emmerich to direct historical epic Maya Lord

Disaster movie specialist Roland Emmerich is set to switch gears with his new project, with Screen Daily reporting that he is set to helm the historical epic Maya Lord – a project he was first attached to back in 2014.

Described as in the vein of Dances With Wolves, The Patriot and Braveheart, Maya Lord “centres on a soldier and a priest whose paths diverge after they are shipwrecked on the Yucatan Peninsula in the early 16th century. Captured by a Mayan tribe, one adopts local culture while the other clings on to his Christian faith. When the Conquistadors arrive in 1519 it tests the will of both men.”

Voltage Pictures to sell Roland Emmerich’s 'Maya Lord'

Centropolis, Voltage to present to Efm buyers on Thursday.

Centropolis Entertainment and Voltage Pictures will produce the historical epic Maya Lord from Roland Emmerich as Voltage kicks off international sales at the Efm in Berlin.

Emmerich will direct from a screenplay by Angela Workman (The Zookeeper’s Wife) that is in the vein of Dances With Wolves, The Patriot, and Braveheart.

Maya Lord centres on a soldier and a priest whose paths diverge after they are shipwrecked on the Yucatan Peninsula in the early 16th century.

Captured by a Mayan tribe, one adopts local culture while the other clings on to his Christian faith. When the Conquistadors arrive in 1519 it tests the will of both men.

Emmerich, whose credits include Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, will join Voltage chief Nicolas Chartier to introduce the project at a buyers presentation in Berlin on February 15. CAA represents UA and Chinese rights.

Kaya Scodelario, Josh Hutcherson, Olivia Munn, and Helen Hunt are starring in the action-romance “Die in a Gunfight” as an update on William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”

The Mark Gordon Company is producing the film, with photography set to begin next month in Boston. Collin Schiffli will direct the film. His 2014 movie “Animals” won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival.

Producers are Tom Butterfield, Mark Gordon and Allyson Seeger of Sunday Night. Sara Smith of Mark Gordon Company will be an executive producer.
