- Believing his wife to be dead, a man lets a woman, who has lost her child, nurse and bring up his infant son - until he finds out that his wife is still alive, and wants the baby back at any cost.
- When Devaki (Sridevi), a street performer accidentally breaks the windshield of Anand's (Jeetendra) car, it triggers events that lead them into marriage, and soon have a son. Vicky (Vinod Khanna) is a pilot and pregnant Yashoda (Jaya Pradha) are also newly married, and the two couples become friends. In a gruesome accident, Vicky loses his life and Devaki is lost, presumed dead. Injured, Yashoda gives birth to a still born child, but wakes up with a baby boy she names Kishan. Widower Anand lavishes love on Kishan. Devaki puts in an appearance and demands the return of her son. Her doctor advises that she cannot bear another child, and her hankering for Kishan ends up in Court. Maternal instincts of both Devaki and Yashoda rage; while the helpless child tearfully watches. Who will raise the child? What is the child going through; will the child's wishes be considered by the court? What does the law say, and what does maternal love shriek? - Anand and Devki on one hand, and Yashoda and Vicky on the other, have recently married. While Devki has a child, Yashoda is expecting. The two couples meet in a train, which is ill-fated as it meet with an accident. Devki is nowhere to be found, and Anand believes she is dead. Vicky and his child are killed and Yashoda is devastated. Anand feels sorry for Yashoda and has the doctor switch his baby for the dead one. Yashoda returns to her home and her in-laws with Anand's child, while he re-locates abroad. Several years later, Anand returns and is unable to keep away from Yashoda and the child. He repeatedly keeps on visiting them, to the extent that his visits get to be a nuisance, and an embarrassment. Then Anand is overjoyed to know that Devki is still alive. But when Devki asks about their child, he tells her the truth, thus setting off a tussle between the 2 mothers, to such an extent that both are prepared to sue each other publicly in Court.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
