What’s Coming to Netflix in December 2018

  • Variety
With the holiday season in full swing, Netflix is beefing up its cache of classic films to watch from the comfort of your couch this December.

Kicking off the start of the month is a much-needed visit from The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” alongside classics “Friday” (get ready to say farewell to Felicia all over again), “8 Mile,” featuring Eminem’s most quotable rap battle, “Hellboy,” and — to lighten the mood — the classic tear-jerker love story “One Day.”

Dropping on Christmas Day are crowd-pleasers “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Roma,” and the 11th season of “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.” The story of the King of Pop unfolds on Dec. 10 with “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” and a few more holiday flicks emerge with “Reindeer Games,” “Free Rein: The Twelve Neighs of Christmas” and “5 Star Christmas.” A slew of Netflix Originals are also joining the streaming slate including “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle,

Ian Seabrook Helps Actors Like Charlize Theron, Ryan Reynolds Feel Comfortable Underwater
From a young age, Ian Seabrook knew he wanted to be an underwater photographer. He made his first dive in 1988; a decade later, he filmed underwater for the first time on a Bud Lite commercial.

His work now spans three decades of television and studio productions, and this year, several big-budget films and TV shows feature his photography. They include “Deadpool 2,” which is being released May 18; episodes of Netflix’s “Lost in Space” revamp; TNT’s “Snowpiercer”; and the recently released “Tully,” from screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman.

On “Tully,” Seabrook had his work cut out for him. The story follows an exhausted mom of three, played by Charlize Theron. Reitman had never directed underwater scenes but was eager to learn the techniques that Seabrook has perfected over the years. Prior to shooting those sequences, which feature Theron and co-star Mackenzie Davis underwater in a car, Reitman met with Seabrook,

Ronin Starring Robert DeNiro Available on Blu-ray August 29th from Arrow Video

Ronin Starring Robert DeNiro and directed by John Frankenheimer will be available from Arrow Academy on August 28th.

Ronin: Noun, historical. A samurai who no longer serves a daimyo, or feudal lord.

From director John Frankenheimer (Reindeer Games, The Manchurian Candidate) comes Ronin, a pulse-pounding, action-packed crime thriller featuring an all-star cast headlined by Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Heat) and Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional).

On a rain-swept night in Paris, an international crack team of professional thieves assembles, summoned by a shady crime syndicate fronted by the enigmatic Deirdre (Natascha McElhone, The Devil’s Own). Their mission: to steal a heavily guarded briefcase from armed mobsters, its contents undisclosed. But what begins as a routine heist soon spirals into chaos, with the group beset by a series of double-crosses and constantly shifting allegiances, and it falls to world-weary former CIA strategist Sam (De Niro) and laconic Frenchman

Matt Damon vs. Ben Affleck: Film Critics Are Forced to Pick a Favorite — IndieWire Critics Survey
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)

From “School Ties” to “Live By Night” and this weekend’s “The Great Wall,” Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have each — for better and worse — left a considerable and ever-increasing footprint in the cultural landscape. But while the world is wide enough for both of them, our hearts are not. And so, we forced our panel of critics to choose: Ben Affleck or Matt Damon?

There can be only one.

Charles Bramesco (@intothecrevasse), Freelance with Rolling Stone, Vulture, Vox

Ben Affleck’s Batman: The already troubled history of The Batman

Luke Owen looks at the already troubled history of Ben Affleck’s The Batman

It was news that concerned fans of the faltering Dceu when it was confirmed that Ben Affleck will no longer direct The Batman, which is still supposed to be released next year. This bad news about The Batman follows rumours that Justice League is a mess, as is Wonder Woman, and The Flash is getting a page-one re-write following the departure of its second director.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film.

Disney Eyeing Will Smith For Live-Action Dumbo Flick

I know what you’re thinking. You love the idea of Dumbo being remade into a live-action movie, but were worried by its serious lack of Will Smith, right? I know. I’m a mind reader.

In all seriousness, though, Disney’s recent trend in remaking their animated classics for the big screen is one that both elates and frustrates. On one end, it’s hard not to roll your eyes at the laziness inherent in the whole deal. Their properties are so well known that these films are bound to make some kind of profit, not matter how bad. On the other hand, the House of Mouse has already proven with films like Cinderella and The Jungle Book that a lazy idea does not necessarily mean lazy execution. So long as they put great talent both in front of and behind the camera, there’s a good chance they

Damon Expects Bourne Series To Go The James Bond Route In Future, Talks Recasting Role

  • LRM Online
I'll never forget seeing the first trailer for The Bourne Identity. It was 2001 and, up until that point, Damon had acquitted himself quite nicely as a dramatic actor-writer in high-minded productions like Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and The Legend Of Bagger Vance. He and pal Ben Affleck crossed over into the A-list at the same time, thanks to their work as writers/actors in 1996's Good Will Hunting, but they seemingly split after that. Damon went serious, and Affleck went big. While Damon worked on the kinds of films mentioned above, Affleck ran around making bombastic blockbusters like Armageddon, Reindeer Games, and Pearl Harbor.

So the idea, as a follower of films, was that- of the two of them- Damon was more of the thoughtful artiste, while Affleck was more the celebrity movie star.

That's what made the debut trailer for The Bourne Identity so attention-grabbing.

Have Yourself A Movie Little Christmas: Krampus And More!

Despite its rampaging monster approach to the holiday season and the imposing, sort-of terrifying giant horned goat-man who provides its title, Krampus isn’t, at heart, an anti-Christmas picture-- it has at least one bloodshot eye pitched toward seasonal classic status. The movie’s story is centered on a family at war with itself—semi-sophisticated suburbanites Adam Scott and Toni Collette and their kids hosting a clan of boorish, right-wing Walmart-warrior relatives headed up by David Koechner and Alison Tolman— who finds itself besieged by the impish and deadly forces of Krampus, the flip-side of holiday cheer, Darth Vader to Santa’s Obi-wan. When the only child left in the family who still clings to his belief in Santa Claus has the last vestiges of Christmas spirit (here so defined as the will to make sacrifices for the good of others) derided out of him, he tears up his last

Gotham season 2: James Frain cast as new villain

Agent Carter alum James Frain has signed up for the role of Theo Galavan, billionaire brother to the villainous Tigress...

So far, we don't know a huge amount about Gotham season 2. We've been told that Cameron Monaghan's Jerome might be back, and that Nicholas D'Agosto's Harvey Dent will have a larger role to play this time around. Beyond that, not much has been revealed.

Today, though, another tiny piece of the jigsaw has slotted into place, in the form of a new character.

James Frain - who played Leet Brannis with creepy aplomb in Agent Carter - has jumped ships to Gotham in order to play Theo Galavan. Deadline's report has described Theo as "the savior the city has been waiting for — he is sexy, heroic, and lovingly devoted to his sister Tabitha."

Speaking of Tabitha Galavan, Theo's sister will go on to become the villainous Tigress (a

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 episode 20 review: Scars

Ahead of its two part season finale, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. wraps up its Age Of Ultron connections and reshuffles the deck…

This review contains spoilers for this episode and Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

2.20 Scars

If there’s one truth that Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. has proved in recent weeks, it’s that at some stage, we’ll have to stop referring to its stronger episodes as rare highlights and instead admit that Marvel flagship show has actually become an all-round entertaining show in its own right.

This revelation occurred to me while watching Scars, the sort-of penultimate season 2 episode before next week’s two-part finale. As with any show, there are a few niggles in the episode (Ward’s reappearance seemed a little shoehorned-in during an episode that had stronger focuses elsewhere) but there was so much to like, which indicates that season 2 as a whole could well go down as

Does the 2003 Daredevil movie really suck?

Ahead of the new Netflix Daredevil show, Luke Owen asks the burning question – does the 2003 Daredevil movie really suck?

In the early 2000s, comic book movies were riding high on a wave of popularity. After seemingly being killed off by the likes of Batman & Robin and Steel, comic book movies made a huge comeback with critically-praised and fan-adored movies like Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Bryan Singer’s X-Men. When X-Men hit it big at the box office in 2000 and Spider-Man followed suit in 2002, movie studios started to snap up as many titles as they possibly could to piggyback off their success. So many of their characters were sold off in fact that not only did it save Marvel Comics from bankruptcy, but there were reports of upwards of 40 movies based on Marvel characters in some stage of development between 2000 and 2002. One of those projects was Daredevil.
