The power couple of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, broke the Internet earlier this week when they got hitched at a beautiful destination wedding in Italy on Monday, December 11. While Anushka's family returned to Mumbai and Virat's family returned to Delhi on Wednesday late night, Anushka and Virat headed for their honeymoon. The couple seems to be in Rome and enjoying the snowy weather. Anushka Sharma shared the first photograph enjoying the snow with hubby Virat and captioned it, "In heaven, literally." While both of them are wrapped in jackets and beanies, the newlyweds look absolutely amazing together.

But… but we hadn’t even gotten to say, “Hail, hail, the gang’s all here” yet. Nonetheless, Sunday’s Fear the Walking Dead found another member of our long-splintered group bailing on the reunion that showrunner Dave Erickson promised was coming. Can’t say we blamed the character in question for pulling an Ofelia and striking out on their own. But it was still kind of a bummer. Read on, and we’ll go over how we got from here to… well, not here anymore.

When have tabloid rumours been spot on about Doctor Who, and when have they been, er, less accurate?
“Look Who's the Doc's new assistant!” On Tuesday, the Mirror's front page trumpeted an exclusive reveal that Bradley Walsh would be Jodie Whittaker's companion in the new series of Doctor Who.

The one-time Sarah Jane Adventures guest star would be the first companion actor to have hosted a quiz show with the same name as a 1960s serial, but beyond trivia, the report has been fairly well received as far as we can see – Walsh is a decent actor, who's worked with incoming executive producer Chris Chibnall before on Law & Order UK, and a fun screen presence. But given the source, might it all be a load of bobbins?...

14 looks at cinema’s most provocative auteur.
Is there any contemporary filmmaker more provocative or polarizing than David Lynch? People who love him consider him a genius, and people who don’t consider him a weirdo. His films stubbornly eschew understanding for emotion, rely more heavily upon visual storytelling than that of the more traditional, narrative variety, and actively seek to make the audience uncomfortable as often as possible. Regardless where you stand on his work, you can’t deny Lynch is a capital-a Artist, a jack of all creative trades, and a cultural figure the likes of which we haven’t known since the heyday of Salvador Dali.
As such, that makes Lynch ripe for frequent exploration by video essayists seeking to unearth a little clarity from among his body of work. In my time at One Perfect Shot and Film School Rejects I’ve viewed essays attempting to define his themes and aesthetic, essays...

Those who have been keeping up with Marvel’s latest YouTube happenings may very well be aware of the “Alien Nation” videos being circulated with the intention of promoting The Mighty Captain Marvel. Blending the art of motion comics, narration and featured musical guests, each have succeeded at helping us understand the world of Carol Danvers.
In the latest offering, writer Magaret Stohl and editor Sana Amanat take us on a guided tour of issue #3, which apparently sees the titular heroine deal with some of the more difficult aspects of the superhero life. Knowing that the previous installment contained elements seldom seen in stories such as this, it feels only natural that things get real before long. In addition to all that, readers can look forward to seeing more from Alpha Flight.
As for the musical side of things, Japanese Breakfast provides this month’s audio treat, specifically “In Heaven” from their debut album Psychopomp.

David Lynch proved himself as a master of film music in his 1986 feature.
“Every note of music has enough breath to carry you away, and as a director, all you have to do is let the right wind blow at the right time” — David Lynch
Sound and music are incredibly important in David Lynch’s films. From Eraserhead (1977) on, Lynch has shown his talent for creating creepy and dreamy soundscapes, which include music and dialogue as well as diegetic and non-diegetic sound effects. Perhaps Lynch’s most popular film, Blue Velvet (1986) perfectly blends together pop music, original score, and Lynchian sound effects. Blue Velvet is especially rich with beautiful music that both comments on and runs counter to the images onscreen. This was the first film in which Lynch focused on both original score/sound effects and pre-existing pop music.
David Lynch is never completely serious or completely joking — he is always both at the same time...

Don’t think one of the scariest movies ever can get any scarier? You’re wrong.
Question: what’s scarier than riding your big wheel through an empty hotel, turning the corner, and finding yourself face to face with twin little girls dressed in matching baby-blue dresses, and oh yeah, they’re dead?
Answer: riding your big wheel through an empty hotel, turning the corner, and finding yourself face to face with a full-grown, malformed-cheeked woman who looks way to happy to see you and can’t stop singing, “In Heaven, everything is fine.”
This hypothetical scenario comes from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, of course, and in the question portion, I’m sticking with the original, little Danny Torrance bumping into the Grady Twins. In the second, however, you might have picked up that the figure described is the infamous Lady in the Radiator from David Lynch’s Eraserhead. Now...

Contemporary warfare seems to be conducted with all the calculation of insurance adjusters studying figures in ledgers, or sports executives applying “Moneyball”-style management techniques on their teams. Acts of war have been dehumanized by acronyms, decisions of life and death are lightened by multiple layers of bureaucracy, and now drone warfare enables the act of killing with nothing more than joystick with a trigger. It’s within a combination of those whirling elements that Gavin Hood (“Tsotsi,” “Rendition”) drops viewers for “Eye In The Sky,” and while certainly imperfect, there is something to admire about the film’s attempt to present the tangled logistics of a single military operation, where it seems everyone wants success but none of the responsibility of the tough decision making involved. The script by Guy Hibbert (“Five Minutes In Heaven”) is as lean as it is clever, with the entire movie taking place over...

You've got to have some kind of special debut film to enlist the likes of Battle In Heaven helmer Carlos Reygadas and The Revenent's Alejandro Innaritu to your cause and the fact that both have gotten involved with Emiliano Rocha Minter's post-apocalyptic We Are The Flesh speaks volumes as to the quality of what is to come, as does the film's selection to the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam. And after sharing a few images earlier in the week Twitch is now proud to share the debut trailer for the film and it is truly impressive stuff, by turns gorgeous, perplexing and repulsive."We Are the Flesh" is set in a post-apocalypse Mexico, where a brother and sister, Lucio and Fauna, wander a ruined city for...

Where to Invade Next
Directed by Michael Moore
USA, 2015
Michael Moore literally declares war at the open of Where to Invade Next; it’s no longer hyperbole to say that he “targets” a certain topic or interest. Here he boards an aircraft carrier with a booming score befitting a Michael Bay title while he brandishes an American flag over his shoulder. He holds court in front of a table of Pentagon officials who in his dream confess to him they have “no idea what the fuck we’re doing” and anoint Moore an American hero.
Thank goodness we have Michael Moore fighting the good fight! Moore’s presence and ego in his films has gone from the in-your-face honesty of Roger & Me to the confrontational approach of Capitalism: A Love Story. His politics were in the right place but he became a parody of himself. The opening of Where to Invade Next...

Spoilers: our viewing notes and geeky spots for Doctor Who series 9, Face The Raven...
So, ravens have been faced, the Doctor has been betrayed, and the groundwork has been laid for the two-part finale. But there’s no time to mourn; here’s our weekly Doctor Who viewing notes, featuring all the callbacks, references and things we otherwise thought interesting. As ever, this is the collected observations of one tired fan, so feel free to catalogue the things I’ve missed in the comments below...
Face The References
This story reunites the Doctor and Clara with graffiti artist Rigsy, who first appeared in last year’s Flatline and acted as Clara’s assistant while the Doctor was trapped inside a Tardis whose outer dimensions were shrinking. The Doctor was initially unimpressed with Rigsy, dismissing him as another ‘pudding brain’, but quickly saw his worth as a source...

Unit, shape-shifters and the Doctor cosplay. Here are the geeky bits and pieces we spotted in Doctor Who's The Zygon Invasion...
For at least the third time this series, one or all of the characters you care about on this show are dead. So what better way to celebrate than to read through our weekly list of callbacks, allusions, shared themes and generally interesting (if tenuous) nonsense? As ever, feel free to leave your own contributions in the comments below!
The Old-Who Invasion
This is the third appearance of the Zygons in Doctor Who; they first menaced the fourth Doctor in 1975’s Terror Of The Zygons, a story which revealed the Loch Ness Monster to be one of the Skarasen, a race from the Zygon homeworld. Unit also featured in that tale, with Kate’s father Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart revealing his Scots heritage in a fetching kilt.

The Witch’s Familiar may have been less frantic than The Magician’s Apprentice, but it contained just as many back-references and kisses to the past - in addition to the ones documented in last week’s article. So here are all the geeky things we were able to notice in this week’s episode…

Callbacks of the Daleks
This isn’t the first time the Doctor has wielded a Dalek gunstick. Having narrated every Dalek story to date for Davros in 1975’s Genesis Of The Daleks, the fourth Doctor then destroys the recording using a Dalek gun. Dalek gunsticks were also wielded by the Dalek-humans in David Tennant Story Evolution Of The Daleks.

Christian-oriented films opening in theaters and video-on-demand continue to be popular among moviegoers looking for family, faith based movies.

After opening at number one over the Labor Day holiday, War Room was number 3 at the U.S. box office this past weekend and now stands at $40.5 million worldwide. 90 Minutes In Heaven debuted at number nine with a strong $2.2 million in ticket sales. With everyone trying for another Passion Of The Christ, this demographic of ticket buyers is one the studios can no longer afford to ignore.

It's not just Rory. These 42 Doctor Who characters have all, in their own way, died and been resurrected...
Spoilers! Lot of them, for Doctor Who of old and new lie ahead. Including the (publicised) return of a face or two to Doctor Who series 9.
Cheating death is a fundamental part of the make-up of Doctor Who. It's lasted for 52 years so far, whether on television or in spin-off media, and that's in no small part because of the original idea to recast the title character in 1966, thus creating the concept of regeneration.
But resurrection has also affected the characters around the Doctor and with a new series about to start, that looks to be as prominent as ever. Heck, series 9 even has a two-parter called The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived. Plus, we already know that apparently dead characters such as Missy, Osgood and River Song will...

The Perfect Guy (Sony Pictures) came in at number one at this weekend’s box office with an estimated $26.7 million.
After a painful breakup, successful lobbyist Leah Vaughn (Sanaa Lathan) jumps into a passionate relationship with a charming stranger (Michael Ealy). When her ex-boyfriend (Morris Chestnut) resurfaces in her life she has to figure out who she should trust and who she should fear.
With War Room at number one last week and Straight Outta Compton number one the three previous weekends, films led by African-American casts have now led the box office for five consecutive weeks.
M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit (review) was a close second with $25.7 million. The film sits at 62% on Rotten Tomatoes and presently has the biggest horror opening of 2015. Scott Weinberg (Nerdist) says, “the end result is the director’s best film in quite some time and represents a big win for M. Night Shyamalan.

Hayden Christensen has shared the meaning behind his daughter's name, Briar Rose.
Christensen, who welcomed a daughter with actress Rachel Bilson in 2014, told Home & Family that there is a Disney reference in Briar's name.

"There's a Disney reference there, I suppose," Christensen said. "The original Sleeping Beauty was called Briar Rose."
When asked whether it was him or Bilson who fell in the love with the name, Christensen revealed they are both big Disney fans.
He said: "We both love all things Disney - but Rachel especially was very keen on the name.
"We have Disney songs playing around the house 24/7 right now."
Christensen soon stars in 90 Minutes In Heaven as a man who is pronounced dead after a car crash, only to come back to life an hour and a half later.

Recently, while discussing Halt and Catch Fire, my husband reminded me of the allegory of the long spoons, in which the tables in hell are heaped high with the most delicious of foods, yet not one of the inhabitants can enjoy the feast because their unwieldy utensils disallow them from feeding themselves. In heaven, however, the situation is the same, yet the inhabitants use those same utensils to eat like kings, because instead of attempting to feed themselves, they feed each other. The most obvious lesson to take from this parable is that helping others helps you. But there’s another lesson to be learned as well: Heaven is just a place. If you find solutions to your problems there, it’s because they existed in your head all along. Peace is practical, and heaven is a state of mind. The allegory has a lot of resonance with regards to...

American audiences can enjoy Rachel Talalay’s two-part series 8 finale in cinemas - with a special series 9 prequel - later this year…
One for our American readers to enjoy, here – Doctor Who series 8’s two-part finale (comprising Dark Water and Death In Heaven, both directed by Rachel Talalay) is getting a cinematic release this autumn. Or fall, as they call it over there.
Approximately 700 Us cinemas will screen the episodes, in 3D. Where it’s possible, there’ll be Dolby Atmos sound, too. Don’t worry - that’s a different kind of Atmos to the evil sat-nav system seen in The Sontaran Stratagem.
Attendees to the screenings will also get to see The Doctor’s Meditation, a special prequel to Doctor Who series 9. There will be an exclusive video interview with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman hosted by Wil Wheaton, as well.

Last week's MPAA bulletin had two titles and both were notable releases, this week has nine titles and only one of them really moves the dial... at all. That one being Stonewall, which I'm sure most people drooling over Roland Emmerich's current project, Independence Day: Resurgence, forgot all about. Well, if you're in that camp, let me remind you. Stonewall is a drama centered on the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York, an event widely considered the starting point for the modern gay civil rights movement. The movie stars Jeremy Irvine, Caleb Landry Jones, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman, Joey King and Karl Glusman. Here's the synopsis: Kicked out of his own home, young Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) flees to NY, leaving behind his beloved sister (Joey King). Homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the watering hole of the local drag queens,...

If you thought faith-based movies were just a brief trend, movies attended by a niche audience outside the mainstream, guess again. Hollywood has seen the light are big stars are starting to gravitate towards films with a wholesome message, and this fall will bring two of them. Kate Mara and David Oyelowo are the starry window dressing on the forthcoming "Captive," and now there's "90 Minutes In Heaven," which features Hayden Christensen and Kate Bosworth, and perhaps most surprisingly, Michael Polish at the helm. Indie fans will recall that Polish was one half of the sibling filmmaking team that made waves with "Twin Falls Idaho" and "Northfork," before striking out on his own, delivering recent, very distinctive and lo-fi movies with "For Lovers Only" and the (very underrated) "Big Sur." Anyway, he's doing...this...which is based on a book which is apparently a true story, if you believe in this sort of thing.

As chance would have it, the news of David Lynch's "Twin Peaks" re-return hit only a few hours after I got off the phone with Catherine E. Coulson, better known as the series' enigmatic "Log Lady." I had just spoken with the actress at length about the Showtime revival, which at the time of our interview remained in limbo following Lynch's declaration last month that he had pulled out of the project over a budget dispute. It was truly an odd coincidence, and came at a time when many fans of the original series had all but given up hope that the revival would ever make it to air. But it's clear that the dogged loyalty shown by Coulson and a number of her "Twin Peaks" co-stars, including Sheryl Lee, Dana Ashbrook, Sherilyn Fenn, James Marshall, Madchen Amick and Kimmy Robertson -- all of whom participated in a video...

Isn't it time the Doctor and Clara welcomed another companion on board the Tardis in Doctor Who series 9? Mark has a few ideas as to who...
Following Jenna Coleman's much-publicised wobble over whether or not to leave Doctor Who in 2014, we've had confirmation that Clara Oswald will be around for this year's series after all. This will make Clara the Doctor's longest-serving companion since the new series began and, indeed, since Janet Fielding's similarly on-off Tegan, back when Peter Davison was the Doctor.
Like Tegan, Clara's had a couple of near-miss exits during her travels already - first, the bittersweet ending of Death In Heaven and the fake-out at the end of Last Christmas. In both cases, she and the Doctor got a reprieve from Nick Frost's Santa, in such a way that when she does eventually leave, we'll all be looking for him to pop out...
