Chased out of their village, a poor farmer, his wife, son and daughter attempt to survive the harsh footpath life of Bombay, when a gangster asks him to work for him. Years later, the farmer is a mafia-like godfather with a crime network of his own, and a host of hoodlums out to kill him. Movie also shows the loves and lives of his children, now married.

In the original script, a scene involved a clash between Aamir Khan
and Om Puri
which involved a lot of dialogs. Aamir Khan at first did not feel the scene was relevant to the film and demanded it would not be shot. 'Dilip Shankar' felt it was needed and later shot the scene. In the final edit, Dilip Shankar eventually felt Aamir Khan was right and it was not relevant, so it was edited out. See more
