Jean-Marc Thibault Jean-Marc Thibault ...  Georges Boissier / ... 10 episodes, 1985-1991

Maguy Boissier is an independent woman living in the mid-80's through early 90's. Witty and sarcastic, she lives with her likeable husband, George, and works at the town hall of Vésinet, while George owns a store that sells electric household appliances. Also living with the Boisser's are their divorced daughter, Caroline, and their granddaughter (Caroline's daughter) Jerome. Maguy shares her loud, strong opinions with all of them, as well as their cleaning lady, Rose Plouhannec, whose opinions are just as strong as her's, and George's best friend, Pierre Garcin, who has military history and a tendency to get on his sister-in-law's nerves. French equivalent of BBC Sitcoms
24 October 2005 | by nicholas.rhodesSee all my reviews

This is the only programme I have seen on French television that comes close to resembling the good old sitcoms from the BBC during the seventies, eighties and beginning of the nineties. It's obviously not as good as those but is the closest I have seen and makes for spending a pleasant half hour in front of the telly after an exhausting day. The series itself is henceforth beginning to grow an few whiskers and cannot be seen on the TV any more, however I notice it was issued on DVD a few months ago. I found Rosy Varte's character quite attaching as well as that of Marthe Villalonga who plays a sort of Home Help. Slightly less funny is Jean-Marc Thibault in the role of George. It's one of those series where you need to really appreciate the actors to obtain some satisfaction from viewing, which happens to be my case. But judgments in this sort of domain are as subjective as ever ! I never laughed watching Tony Hancock and only occasionally during Morecambe and Wise, however I readily admit that both these artists have made millions laugh across the UK over the years they were active.
