On 2016, Rose McGowan wrote this Instagram post:

"Here I am as Miss Kitty in a film called Monkeybone. The movie would've been incredible (at least the underworld part) if the men at 20th Century Fox (the suits) hadn't fired the director, a true artist, Henry Selick 1/2 the way through filming- a profoundly stupid move. Selick went on to direct Coraline and had already made the classic, James and the Giant Peach, both tremendous pieces of work. The set design, costumes, prosthetics, actors, all at master level, at least in the underworld part of the film. What #FoxStudios turned this film into because of their fear and lack of artistic thinking was a travesty. They truly robbed us, the audience, of a possible classic. Also-fun fact alert-Monkeybone was based on a graphic novel called Dark Town. The weenies at Fox changed the name to 'Downtown' because they were scared African Americans would be upset by a psychedelic underground acid trip of a world with a CAT for a waitress named Dark Town. Hmmm... I wonder how many African American women directors they've hired in ratio to white male directors? That is what is what Fox should have been/should be concerned with. #foxstudios #rosearmy #anarmyofthought #bravethebook #thinkdifferent #be better" See more »

Doctor: [racing towards the Ambulance with other doctors carrying the loaner body and Stu's body] Excuse me! That's our corpse. We've been chasing him all over town.
Ambulance Driver: [sitting in the driver seat] Help yourself pal.
Doctor: [pulling the cover off the loaner body] All right smart-ass you prepare to co-operate now?
[Stu sits up, scaring the doctors]

Goofy, only mildly funny unique movie...

Monkeybone(2001) 4 out of 10, 1st watched 6/4/05 Dir-Henry Selick:

Goofy, only mildly funny unique movie about a cartoonist who goes into a comma and comes back as his cartoon character(his alter ego), monkeybone, with disastrous results. This is a kind of like two movies in one. You have, Downtown, the pre-death nightmare land filled with goofy creatures coming out of his dreams, and then the live-action world of real life that he first comes into as Monkeybone in his own body and then later as himself in a practically dead corpse of a prior gymnast's body played by Chris Katten. The funniest parts are with Kattan's character in which he's perfectly cast for this role with his physical humor perfected on Saturday Night Live, but he's just a small portion of the movie. The rest of it kind of labors under it's own goofiness and what we have is kind of a timburtonesque, rogerrabbitesque, nothingness. Bridget Fonda is cute as ever and Brendan Fraser is Brendan Fraser, but nobody really has enough to carry this movie into something worthwhile. Nice try, but a lot of money spent without a whole lot of satisfaction back to the viewer.
