The story centred around nine incompatible people chip together to purchase and inhabit a run-down house. Librarian Georgina Ruddy (Hayyie Jacques) who had to keep quiet at work all day and so made up for it by being extremely noisy at home with council official Simon Willow (Charles Hawtrey) and the unemployable Daisy Burke (Joan Sims). The rest of misfits included a young Norman Rossington as the law student Gordon Brent. Other characters were newly weds, a shy bank clerk sniffing Captain lliffle and his violin playing wife. Although series two of Our House had 26 episodes, ITV decided to stop showing them in the London area after just seven fortnightly airings. The remaining 19 episodes were seen on a weekly basis elsewhere in the country.Written by
The majority of the master tapes for the ATV sitcom Our House were destroyed during the 1960s.
The plot concerns a group of very different people who pool together their funds and buy a house large enough to accomdate them all. Characters include librarian Georgina Ruddy, council official Simon Willow, unemployable Daisy Burke, Yorkshire sea dog Captain Illiffe and his French singing wife, newlywed Hattons and law student Gordon Brent.
So many faces from the Carry On films appear [Hattie Jacques, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Bernard Bresslaw], its a wonder they didn't call the series Carry On Under One Roof!
The only suriving episodes are Simply Simon [ITV, 8 Sept. 1960], A Thin Time [ITV, 25 Sept. 1960] and Love to Georgina [ITV, 20 Nov. 1960]
