Trivia

Since the film was made prior to the recovery of the actual HL Hunley, some details of the ship shown in the film are not accurate. Also, the mock-up which was used for interior scenes was 10% roomier than the actual Hunley. A section of the mock-up can be seen, and entered, at the HL Hunley Restoration site in Charleston, SC. Quotes

Gen. Pierre G.T. Beauregard: And what about you, Dixon? What did you lose in this war besides a good chunk of your leg? Your wife. I do not wish to be... indiscreet, but I have heard the story. She was on a ferry boat that went down in the Tennessee River - hit by a torpedo... that drifted in from God knows where. How can you bear that?
Lt. George Dixon: I read you lost your wife, sir. I'm sure it pains you to talk about that.
Gen. Pierre G.T. Beauregard: On the contrary. It helped me to get rid of the trappings of sentiment. She died... giving birth to my daughter. ...

AWESOME!
15 January 2001 | by See all my reviews

This is a great movie. I rented it on video and was amazed how well this made for television movie was executed. Donald Sutherland played his part very well, but the directors/writers did not have to rely on him to carry it. This movie is a must see for any history buffs or lovers of submarine flicks. A very good movie.
