Storyline

Frankie, the skinny, crooning alley-cat, is serenading his fan-pack of female animals late at night, who are swooning off the fence in droves, but the homeowner trying to sleep is not impressed and he belts Frankie with a tomato and chases him away. Frankie's fans are upset and, as retribution for his act, the homeowner is kept awake all night by the singing of the fans. Written by Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>

Farmer Al Falfa' 30th Anniversary
25 March 2015 | by See all my reviews

Farmer Al Falfa can't sleep. "Frankie" the cat is crooning in the vacant lot across the street. When he shuts the window, his cat turns on the radio; the concert is being broadcast in this Terrytoon celebrating thirty years of Farmer Al Falfa cartoons.

The skinny build, the bow tie, the style of singing and the way the girl cats swoon all tell you that this is supposed to be a cat version of Frank Sinatra. This means that the competition is Frank Tashlin's SWOONER CROONER from the previous year. That had a rooster Frank and a rooster Bing Crosby, and although the capper gag here is pretty good, well, I love Looney Tunes and sort of like the best of Terrytoons. This is a good one to compare and contrast the house styles. I still prefer Tashlin by a big margin.
