Fun for the most part, hated the maze levels though.

This game was your typical side scrolling game, it scrolled both down to up and left to right. You are an angel named Pit and you are out to take down the evil Medusa. I do not remember why you must take her down, but do you really need a reason to take down the evil Medusa. Your weapon of choice is a bow and arrow that does not exactly fire very far. You battle all sorts of creatures and you can be turned into an eggplant, which would be strange for a game these days, but was perfectly natural for the old games of the 1980's when the Nintendo was really hot and cooking. For the most part the game is really a lot of fun, there are some frustrations though in these levels that resemble mazes where you must navigate them to fight the boss of the level. The game consists of the underworld level, the regular world and an over world, then you finally get to fly and use a decent bow and arrow in the final level where you pretty much can destroy Medusa fairly easily. In fact it is probably the easiest level in the game, which is nice for a change. In the old days and now a lot of games you get these super powered weapons and such in the last levels of the game, yet they are not all that powerful because the enemies have been so ramped up. It is nice to play a game where the super weapon and shield to in fact make you nearly invincible.

    A Nintendo Gem

Kid Icarus is an old Nintendo game that continues to be a pleasure to play every time. You play a boy human/angel named Pit. Pit goes on an adventure, armed with only a bow and arrow, to rescue a Princess and save the Angel Land from the evil Medusa. Pit must travel through 3 worlds the underworld, overworld, sky world, eventually reaching the Palace in the Sky where Medusa awaits. In each world Pit must defeat the Gatekeeper and collect the three sacred treasures necessary to defeat Medusa. As you progress through the game you collect hearts from vanquished enemies that can be used to buy items in stores. Pit's energy and power will increase as you advance through the game. This is a classic Nintendo title that has great graphics and memorable game tunes. There are also several alternate endings which gives the player incentive to go through the game again. Kid Icarus was an amazing game, I usually pick it up once a year play through it, it is ashame that it hasn't been redone on a current game console because it was one of the finest Nintendo games made in the 80's.

my top 5 nintendo games of the 80s

This is one of the best games ever made. I beat it frequently and just love the cast of monsters in it. My favorite is the Hairy Nose Room where the song "Hairy Noses Galore" plays and adds to the drama of Pit trying to conquer Hyrule. There are also 3 bosses who have the Hairy Nose music when you are beating them. This is a comparable game to Metroid in '86 and I will continue to beat this until the Nintendo stops working. I wish Nintendo would make a movie Kid Icarus, or at least put out the Hairy Nose song on a CD or something. We could have a Nintendo greatest music CD and Kid Icarus would for sure be a feature

    • Trivia
The game's ending had four variations. Which one the player received depended on how many of Pit's stats the player had maxed out before the end.
    • Alternate versions
When originally released on the Famicom Disk System in Japan, this game included a 3-file save feature similar to that of "The Legend of Zelda". This was replaced by a password entry system for the overseas cartridge-based release.
