As Bond jumps through the door in the underground shootout, we see a brief shot of him bounding headfirst through a door, with his gun outstretched. Closer inspection reveals that the gun was discharging during this jump, but no sound is heard.
It is stated that the bomb traveling in the pipeline is traveling at 70 miles per hour and has to cover a distance of 106 miles. Bond states that this will take 78 minutes. To cover 106 miles at 70 miles per hour would actually take 91 minutes. However, Bond admits in GoldenEye that he was never good with numbers.
Elektra King claims to be of Azeri descent on her maternal side. Thus she thinks she is saving her cultural heritage by rerouting the pipeline around the church. But the church as proved by the priest is Russian orthodox and that is far removed from Azeri culture.
After Bond and Christmas climb out of the blown pipeline (which is in Azerbaijan - since shortly before Bond was in Baku, and Electra was called and informed about a problem) Bond says "What are you doing here in Kazakhstan?"
Why is Electra using Windows 2000 (still in beta at the time) to survey her oil empire? (I think it's just after she's asked M to come and help her) You shouldn't use beta software for anything important....
The torture chair would crush Bonds windpipe (pushing from behind against the metal collar) before it would break his neck. The sound Bond makes under the pressure is the sound of a man suffocating, not an under pressure neck.
After Bond enters the submarine, he threatens a crewman by holding an M1911 type pistol with the hammer down at the crewman's head. The gun cannot fire in this aspect and it does not make sense that Bond would enter a hostile submarine so disarmed.
During the caviar factory battle, Bond hides behind a table, holding his P99 pistol as he yells, "Get out!" to Valentin and Christmas. After a cutaway, Bond is holding a machine gun, then after another, he fires the original pistol.
During the opening scene, before Bond jumps out the window, he is clearly shown tying the curtain rope to his belt (this is also seen again as he is falling). Yet, when he lands on the ground, he simply lets go of the rope and walks off without undoing it.
In the Millennium Dome chase sequence, just before Bond jumps from Q's fishing boat to the balloon, the canopy on the boat is present. When Bond actually makes the jump, the canopy has disappeared without explanation.
In one shot during the caviar building action sequence, Bond opens a hatch and climbs out onto the dock, with an empty gun (the slide on his pistol is locked back), and yet he fires it above him, shooting out the feet of the man above him.
Just before the Russian submarine surfaces below the tower in Istanbul, a wide shot shows the ship it used for cover going by the tower, built on a very small island, considerably smaller than the ship. In the next shot the submarine is surfacing in a hall which is at least twice as long as the whole island.
When Jones is waiting for the indicator to turn red, the button cover is closed. However, when she goes to press the button the cover is open but she gets pushed away. When she again goes to press the button, the cover is closed again.
In the underground base, when Bond is rushing to get to the door, it is almost completely shut. In the next shot, when Bond is diving through the door, it is only about half shut, giving him enough time to jump through it before it closes.
[Around 0:03:12] When Bond is face to face with the man holding the gun, the laser pointer from the sniper's gun is seen aimed at his unbuttoned jacket, while in the next shot, just before he gets shot at, his jacket is seen buttoned up.
When James is chasing the other boat in the beginning, he fires the top torpedo first. Then when they show him fire the second torpedo, the bottom hole is empty, and he fires the same torpedo (the one on top) again...
In the Caviar Factory scene, Bond is shooting at some enemies with a pistol. It cuts to a shot of Christmas and Valentin, then back to Bond. Now he has a submachine gun. Then in another shot, he is back to his pistol again.
At the beginning when Bond jumps into the speed boat to chase after the assassin, he's not wearing a helmet. But when the speed boat hits the bigger one and rolls in the air, you can clearly see the driver with a helmet on.
When Bond is with Electra, before he goes skiing (in the little room looking at the pipelines), he has at least one button done up on his jacket, then when he walks out to go skiing you see that they are all undone.
In the opening scene, Bond's grip on the banker changes between shots. When seen from Bond's side, he holds him both by the tie and part of his jacket, but when seen from the banker's side he only holds the tie.
Despite running and jumping for her life, traveling at over 70mph, tumbling head over heels, and several massive explosions (during the nuclear factory and pipeline sequences), Dr. Jones' hair remains pinned up in a French twist with nary a strand out of place. Uh-huh. This is particularly glaring considering near the end of the film, the impact of an explosion finally does knock her hair loose.
In the scene where the doctor is telling the staff of MI6 about Renard, she says the bullet is moving through the medulla oblongata which is located in the neck below the left ear. However, Renard was shot in the head above his eyebrow, and in the hologram, it shows the bullet was moving straight into the middle of his brain.
Pierce Brosnan's hair fluctuates in length noticeably throughout the film, most noticeably between walking down the path at King's funeral and moments later at the debrief at the MI6 Scottish Headquarters.
In the opening scene in the bankers office, the henchman comes in and places the suitcase on the desk and opens it so Bond can check the cash inside. Minutes later when Bond makes his escape out the window, the suitcase is on the floor, locked - very convenient.
When M is imprisoned and is being spoken to by Robert Carlyle she is wearing a multi-coloured scarf which is draped over her left shoulder and down the left side of her body. When Carlyle leaves the room M turns around and walks towards the bed. The camera angle is reversed and she's not wearing the scarf. Later it is shown lying across the bed.
In the ski-scene, Bond and Elektra start well above the tree line. Even when they stop to look at a stretch of the pipeline they are obviously high above the treeline. At the instant the motorgliders appear they are well below the treeline.
At the end of the boat chase we see the tide is out at the Millennium Dome and the boat gets beached, but when the girl exits the boat the tide is in and completely surrounds the boat, with no time for this to happen.
When the boat jumps over the road in the chase, it goes straight over the road and into the alley. However, in the next shot, it is driving through the alley, and passes behind a bus that wasn't in any of the previous shots.
When Bond has his gun pointed at Renard's head just before Christmas comes in at the bomb place, the gun is in the centre of Renard's head. Then the shot suddenly changes to a more zoomed out shot and the gun is pointed slightly to the left of Renard's head.
In the nuclear decommissioning facility, when the Colonel, the soldier and Dr. Jones come down, the soldier hands the Colonel an AKS-74. However, when Renard shoves the picture of Dr. Arkov in the Colonel's chest, he doesn't have the AKS anymore, we can see he's not holding it because the Colonel holds the picture with two hands. After Renard grasps Bond's shoulder and walks back, he says "Without further interruptions" you can see another soldier holding the AKS-74. The Colonel is holding a Makarov when he orders the terrorists back to the surface.
When the pipe blows up, why does it blow up in three sections at the same time? Also, I might be wrong, but when we see the explosion it looks like a straight section of pipe, but when Bond and Jones are walking around afterwards, it's clearly a curved section that blew up.
Right at the beginning of the film when Bond is trying to escape from the banker's office, he goes to the window and tucks his gun into his waistband. He then runs to the body lying on the other side of the office, and tucks it into his waistband again.
When Bond's in the chair having his neck broken, between two shots the handles change position. Also, at one point we hear that the woman turns the handles a bit, but in the next shot they haven't moved.
When Elektra and Renard meet again in Istanbul and he hands her the plutonium and they stand face to face, there is a classic mis-edit: in the closeup - she looks down towards her hands holding the item then the camera directly cuts to a broader view and she's looking up at him.
In the warehouse sequence Bond is taking cover from gun fire and yells to Zukovsky and Christmas "Get Out!" while holding his Walther P99. A helicopter cuts though the building his in and he drops down to protect himself (he's in the same place) and he's holding another gun (possibly an UZI) Then a couple of scenes later 007 drops down on two bad guys and shoots them with his P99.
In the scene where Bond has the X-ray specs he looks at a man who has a pistol and a knife in his pockets to the left, and over his right shoulder is a semi-automatic pistol. He confronts the man and both the knife and pistol are taken out, but the semi isn't seen again.
At the end of the pursuit scene, the boat of the "cigar" girl stops on the bank of the Thames in front of the Millenium Dome. But it's completely in the water in one shot when Bond's boat passes over it, and it seems to be moored.
When they're looking at the computer model of Renard's head (just after the doctor says "medulla oblongata"), count the pings. The first two times we hear one, a slight pause, then 3 close together, with corresponding green pointers on the image, then a higher pitched one on the green box. However, the third time (after "than any normal man") there's no initial ping with pause, just the 3 close together. Then just as we're expecting the higher one we cut to a shot of M, and we hear another middle beep before the final one. The sequence starts again, we cut back to the model in the middle of it, and we get an extra beep again, plus see that the beeps are now completely out of sync with bits of the model being illuminated.
When James Bond is in the process of being tortured by a woman (again, not giving too much away), she takes off her right ear-ring to reveal a damaged ear lobe. About 10-15 seconds later, the ear-ring is back on her ear without her having replaced it.
In the first scene, when Bond has a gun to the Swiss banker's head, in the first shot Bond's got his gun pressed right up to the guy's neck. However, when it cuts, the gun is a couple of inches from the banker's face.
At the end of the boat chase, when the Cigar Girl blows up the balloon, you see Bond rolling down the building; all his hair is wild and uncombed. When he grabs the wire and stops, his hair is nicely combed down and a few hairs in front are a little wild.
At the end of the boat chase, when Cigar Girl's Sunseeker boat hits the shore below the Dome, it is clearly low tide. The boat beaches quite a way short of the river wall. Seconds later when Bond's boat jumps over the Sunseeker, it is clearly high tide and the Sunseeker's bow is now touching the river wall.
During the caviar factory scene, you see the helicopter hovering above Bond's BMW. The helicopter has the blades suspended beneath it, but when Bond destroys the helicopter, the blades are no longer there.
When Bond and Renard first come face-to-face at the silo, Bond puts his pistol on Renard's temple. When the camera cuts on Renard's line, "I did spare your life at the banker's office," the gun has changed position to Renard's forehead.
When Bond skis over the top of the para-hawk, and "slices" the parachute open, this scene is filled with errors. First of all, in the initial shot, his trajectory is way off, and he completely misses the parachute. Second of all, it cuts to a shot where the ski slices the parachute open, and the hole it makes is a long, wide hole. When it cuts to the next shot, there is only a very small, round hole in the chute, and the edge of the parachute is also frayed, despite Bond having done nothing to the edge of the parachute.
In the Swiss banker's office at the beginning, Bond is handed a receipt. From Bond's POV it is an A4 sheet but has shrunk to A5 when it cuts back to Bond as he starts to fold it. Later in the MI6 castle in Scotland he brings the receipt out of his pocket and it is once again A4.
Just before the parahawks give chase the camera looks down at the snow where Bond stands and there is no mark from his ski as if he was lowered to that location by helicopter before filming was started.
During the opening boat chase, the route actually taken through London's Isle of Dogs does not match the route displayed on Bond's on-board computer map. Specifically: The map shows the route through West India Docks, but the chase is obviously through Millwall Inner and Outer Docks. Further, the boats come out of what is, in reality, a dead end.
In the opening scene in Bilbao, Spain, after the shots, police sirens are heard, and several cars of the Spanish national police are seen through the window, at several different times. When the police enter the office, however, the uniform worn by the agents is not the one from the Spanish national police, but from the Basque police force, which would not have jurisdiction over this type of event.
Renard's file says that the bullet traveling through his brain is in the medulla oblongata, thus killing his senses. This area of the brain controls basic functions such as breathing and heart rate, not the sensory perceptions.
Even if the villains would cause the submarine reactor to overheat and be destroyed by a meltdown, this would produce rather small amounts of contamination, especially since it takes place under water. Istanbul would not at all need to be evacuated, which foils the entire plan.
Renard's file states that the bullet is traveling through his 'Medulla Oblongata'. This is actually the part of the brain at the lower part of the brain stem (therefore towards the back and the furthest point down of the brain). When we see the 3D image of Renard's head and brain we can see that the bullet is actually traveling through the left side, at the front of the brain within the top portion of the brain, this section is actually the Frontal Lobe (or Cerebral Hemisphere)and nowhere near the Medulla Oblongata.
The depiction of the submarine's nuclear propulsion facilities is complete fantasy. The notion that a submarine would have a smelting facility for shaping fuel rods is nonsense; refueling operations happen at port, less than a handful of times during the lifetime of the sub, not ad hoc underway. And where would they get the raw material for smelting? Also, a Victor III submarine has a VM-4P pressurized water reactor which cannot be opened and remain operating as shown as this lets out the water in the reactor vessel which is essential for it to function; the nuclear reaction stops when no water is present. Any operation such as depicted would scald, burn and heavily irradiate anyone trying, guaranteeing their immediate death.
It is extremely difficult to move a limb that is devoid of feeling, and a man who has no sensation anywhere in his body would need to learn how to move all over again; he would likely move very stiffly and awkwardly, and we don't see that.
A saw designed for cutting tree branches would have no success in cutting through steel (as shown in the destruction of Bond's BMW). With teeth so large to cut through steel would require an enduring substance unknown to mankind plus an extremely forceful propulsion.
In the opening boat chase scene, when Bond takes the Q-boat ashore at high speed and hurtles through city streets, we see that his hands are still steering the Q-boat, even though there's no external means of steering the boat on dry land. We get a good look at the Q-boat's keel a couple of times, and it has no wheels nor other steering mechanism aside from its jet-ski nozzle, which would be useless for steering on dry land. Its twin rocket thrusters, which are both firing in the street sequence, provide only forward thrust. But, remarkably, the Q-boat manages to change direction by as much as 90° without losing momentum on dry land.
At Valentin's Caviar factory, one of the lumbering choppers cuts through Bond's car. It is obvious that saw blades cutting through metal cause a high volume of sparks. Yet as the saws cut, the car is simply split in half down the middle, and falls apart. This would have ignited the gas tank, and the car would have exploded. Not to mention all the modifications Q has made to the car, with rockets and other explosive goodies.
When Christmas and Bond are on the rigs in the pipeline and are supposedly moving at about 70mph their hair only move about a little bit and very little flapping of the clothes. 70mph is a significant blast, try opening a window on a motorway.
Bond submerges Q's 'fishing boat' in the opening chase scene in order to pass underneath a closed drawbridge. However, there is no windscreen on the boat; submerging the boat at that speed would cause tear the roof off completely, or cause the driver's compartment to act as a huge water scoop and create massive drag.
In the scene where James is being told why Robert Carlisle's character is so deadly (no pain etc.), they mention a specific part of the brain - Medulla Oblongata, which the character has a bullet travelling through. This is part of the brain is responsible for control of breathing and the heart - you can't survive a bullet there...
When Valentin takes Bond and Christmas into the FSB's headquarters in Istanbul, he explains "This used to be the KGB's headquarters in Istanbul. Now we call it the FSB: Federal Security Bureau. Different name, same friendly service," or something to that effect. However, the important part that Valentin flubs is that "FSB" is the *Russian* acronym transliterated into the Roman alphabet. What it really stands for is Federalnaya Sluzhba Bezopasnosti. If he'd said the name correctly in English, he would've said "Federal Security Service," the FSB's official English name and that appears on all of its translated literature. Had a character unfamiliar with the FSB (Mr. Bullion, Electra, Bond, Christmas, and possibly even Renard) made this same flub, it would've been understandable. However, Valentin knows the FSB so well that he can apparently just waltz into a foreign headquarters building with whoever he wants. If he knows them that well, he's flat out not going to make so simple a mistake.
After the explosion in the pipeline Christmas says: "the world's greatest terrorist running around with 6 kilos of plutonium." That tells us that each half of the plutonium ball weighs 6 kg. Seconds earlier she asks "Why leave this half" and pulls out the other half of the plutonium from her bag. She lifts it with the tip of her fingers as if the container weighs no more than a pound. You can definitely not lift 6 kg with such a casual hand movement, and no significant weight change is visible in the bag.
Further to another submitted mistake, your sense of touch, which Renard is supposed to have lost, is largely made possible by the parietal lobe which is located at the top back area of the brain. Not only is the bullet in Renard's head shown to be nowhere near this section it's also nowhere near the stated medulla oblongata section which is at the bottom of the brain.
Bond fires two torpedoes against the other speed boat on the Thames. They both hit, but in the next clip only the rear end of the boat is burning slightly. That must be some very weak torpedoes if a fiberglass boat is not completely destroyed by them.
In the scene where Zukovsky is almost drowning in caviar he lies very deep - only the top of his face above the surface. The depth of a body in a liquid depends on the proportions between the density of the body and the liquid. For example in the Dead Sea, with its high salt content, the water has a high density, so a body floats higher than in fresh water. Caviar must have a quite high density too - probably as high as the water in the Dead Sea, since it tastes quite salt too. So if a person was floating in caviar, he would not go as deep down as Zukovsky does in that scene. That looks more like how deep he would go in fresh water.
When the pipeline explodes it is clear during the explosion that it is mostly fire coming from the pipeline. There is no spray of earth or other debris. But afterwards Bond and Christmas are walking through a huge crater. Where (and when) did the earth get displaced, if it was not thrown up in the actual explosion?
In the scene where Bond is watching the screen showing the bomb going through the pipeline, he asks for the distance the bomb has to travel and how fast it is going. Bond is told the bomb "is 106 miles from the terminal, going 70 mph." Bond says, "We've got 78 minutes." Wrong. At 70 mph (1.17 miles a minute) it would take about 91 minutes to cover that distance.
When Bond is in the little boat and nosedives it underwater to avoid whatever it was he was avoiding, he appears to be travelling at fairly high speed. With no windshield (or such a small one), the force of the water hitting him in the face should have knocked his head off or at least broken his neck.
During the boat chase, the part when Bond jumps the boat through London Canoeing Club shed was filmed in the canal at Tobacco Wharf in London. This is not actually the home of the L.C.C. Across from this in real life is a road and then a dead end yet once Bond hits the road he finds himself in what appears to be Camden Fish market.
Bilbao is in the Basque Country, which has its own police force, the Ertzaintza, that is independent from the Spanish National Police. When the police burst into the Swiss banker's flat, it is the Ertzaintza who enters, with their traditional red caps. However, when Bond is walking away, the police cars that are going towards the crime scene belong to the Spanish National Police, which has no jurisdiction in the Basque Country.
At the beginning of the film, with the boat chase down the River Thames, Bond manages to get from the Vauxhall HQ of MI6 to Docklands in a remarkably short time. To travel the distance in the time that it takes him you would need to be going at about 700 mph.
In the final battle, Bond shoots up the dive controls of the submarine and it dives vertically down, straight into the bottom of the Bosporus. The sub is said to be a Victor-III that is about 100 meters long. The Bosporus around Istanbul, however, is only about 50 meters deep, so the rest of the sub would have stuck out of the water, not be fully submerged as shown.
Renard is supposed to be stronger than the average person because he cannot feel pain. There are people born with this problem; it's called "CIP," and they are not super-strong. Most die in childhood because they cannot feel injuries. Lepers suffer similar problems because they lose sensation. As a plot point, it's pretty weak, even ignoring the other posts which explain that the location of the bullet would not cause such an effect.
At the beginning of the film, when Bond is in Swiss bank (in Spain), while reviewing the statement of account, the account listed is for "Sir Robert King", but the banker addresses him as Mr. Bond when the document is handed to him. Bond must be authorized to collect the money. The banker tells him "No doubt, Sir Robert will be pleased to see it again", showing that he knows Bond is not Sir Robert King.
Although the helicopter-carried buzz-saw blades look impressive, in practice, they would be totally ineffective killing tools against anyone who wasn't taught to run away from things by Prometheus' Meredith Vickers.
When Bond drives his speedboat through the market during the boat chase scene, a view from the driver's perspective shows food and debris striking what is apparently a windshield. While his boat has no windshield, the police car following (whose perspective we see) does.
Assuming - wrongly - that a rod of weapons grade plutonium probably can cause a meltdown in a reactor, while it wouldn't technically be an "explosion" it would still be a massive release of energy. So that's a fair enough word, especially when used a non-expert such as Bond.
When Bond stands up behind the glass doors after the MI6 explosion, he is dry. When he climbs into the jet boat, he is already wet. This is from the sprinkler system that activated immediately after the explosion.
In the MI6 opening sequence we see a hole blown in the face of the building when the money explodes. When Bond launches the jet boat, the hole is gone. The hole is obscured by a lamp pole and the smoke from the explosion.
When Bond slices the parachute with his skis, not only is the damage in the wrong place and the wrong size in the next cut, but there is no reason for the engine to be sputtering once the parachute is damaged - it was not hit.
When Bond and Elektra are trapped inside the inflatable shield, it is dark. Bond turns on the lights on his wristwatch, and the entire place lights up. Bond moves around around a lot, but the lighting does not change at all, revealing that the lighting is coming from a different source.
When Renard holds the scalding rock, it burns his skin to the point where smoke comes out. After he lets go of the rock, there is not a mark on his hand. Despite the fact that he cannot "feel pain" his hand would still be visibly burned very badly.
After the gun barrel sequence, Bond walks down a street in Bilbao and you can see an old lady hiding and looking at him as well as the fans (some flashing cameras) being held back by a steel fence so that they don't walk in the scene.
In the pre-credits boat chase, just before Cigar Girl's Sunseeker crashes outside the Millennium Dome, the first-person view from the boat reveals that the broken railings on the wall which are seemingly caused by the boat's nose, are in fact broken prior to impact.
The helicopter supposedly cannot land because of severe wind. When James and Elektra disembark on their skis, the only wind action seen is that caused by the helicopter's own rotor, and the pilot manages to keep the helicopter still while hovering.
After Bond jumps out of the window grabbing a strap, when he is hanging loose you can notice the cable holding him parallel to the body, pointing towards the sky. The strap is diagonally placed pointing towards the building.
When James Bond is on the run from the helicopter in the caviar factory, he backs into a metal pipe, holding his Walther P99 just above his head. Yet, if you watch the pipe you can see that it is a prop, as the pipe wobbles when Bond backs into it.
When Bond is talking with Zuckovsky in the casino, you can see a television set behind them with images from a security camera. You can tell it's the same footage used in the shot before showing people in the casino, only played again on the television.
During the gun battle after Renard escapes the bunker, someone gets shot, and you see the stunt bloke dive to the floor and scream even though the gun wasn't even pointed at him or any bullets fired. He's the one standing just to the right of the jeep as we look at it.
During the ski chase, a paratrooper pulls out a submachine gun and fires a volley of bullets at Bond. However, as these hits the ground, you can see that actually there are two parallel lines of explosions behind Bond. The submachine gun can't possibly shoot two regular lines of bullets like that.
Right at the beginning of the boat chase when Bond drives the boat through the waterway in MI6, before he jumps the boat into the river, there is a shot roughly from Q's POV, the boat clearly slows right down before it reaches the end. It couldn't fly as far through the air as shown.
When Bond goes skiing with Electra to check the pipe lines, in one scene you can see ski tracks in front of the pair. They could be from previous line inspections, but surely they would have been snowed over? That area doesn't look like a popular ski resort....
When Bond tells Renard that Elektra is dead, in the over-the-shoulder shot of Pierce Brosnan, you can see him making faces at Robert Carlyle (just before he starts screaming). However in the next shot of Bond's face, it's as if his face hasn't changed.
During the action sequence on the labyrinthine docks on the Caspian Sea, one of the choppers with the rotating blades saws Bond's BMW in half. A cutaway shot reveals Bond nearby, murmuring, "Q's not gonna like this." The next shot is in back of Bond, seeing the newly split BMW fall apart, but Pierce Brosnan has been replaced with a dummy. This is most obvious during the over-the shoulder shot of the BMW falling apart, where Bond's gun is now held in front of him. Also, when the car splits in two, the dummy shakes a bit.
When the Helicopter with the saw blades is cutting through the BMW, the amount of sparks would have set off the gas tanks blowing the car up. Even if it didn't, after the car was cut in half there was no fluids of any type dripping from the car. No gas, oil, anti-freeze, etc.
The goof items below may give away important plot points.
Bond was wearing a white shirt (and a suit) before killing Elektra. Right after killing her, he rushes to the underground dock for submarine and jumps into the water. Next he is shown wearing a blue shirt in which he gets into the submarine.
When Elektra has Bond in the torture device, she takes off her right earring, showing Bond her injured ear. However, in the next scene where she steps behind the torture device the earring is back on her ear.
Near the end of the movie just before 007 boards the submarine, Elektra is handed the walkie talkie at gunpoint and ordered to call off Renard. When 007 says this, the camera, while facing him, shows him with his gun raised however when the screen shifts to Elektra, only his arm with the walkie talkie in hand is shown raised.
After M asks Elektra, "What's the time?", Elektra's body guard Gabor is seen to close the door to M's cell at Maiden's Tower. However, about a minute later, Gabor is all the way across the harbor in Istanbul where he and Elektra's henchmen take Bond and Dr. Jones captive.
At the end of the submarine scene, Bond and Jones escape from the rearward torpedo tube right before the explosion splits the sub in two. Yet when they are on the surface and waving to the tourist boat, the ocean is dead calm.
