Storyline
Plot Summary |
With her two young precocious daughters, free-spirited mother Julia flees her stifling life in London for the promise of excitement, freedom and self-discovery in exotic Marrakech. In her single-minded quest for spiritual enlightenment and escapism, Julia falls into a steamy relationship with a handsome street performer. Unfortunately, her selfish determination may actually cause her to lose what she loves most. Incidentally, the title Hideous Kinky is derived from a free-association word game enjoyed by the two young girls. Told from the perspective of the youngest daughter, the story provides insight into the Moroccan atmosphere.

Did You Know?
Trivia | The title of the film and book comes from the only two words the two girls remember their mum's friend saying "Hideous" and "Kinky". Bea in particular uses the words in a game that the girls play which is similar to "tag" but if she shouts "Hideous Kinky" before her sister tags her she is free. See more » |
Goofs | The word "gross," meaning disgusting, was not in use in early-1970s Britain. See more » |
