Silly political satire
Paul Thomas didn't bring his A game to this scattershot porn parody, which plays like what might have happened had Larry Flynt bought out Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video company and put on a XXX edition of "Saturday Night Live" devoted to politics. Of course, that would have to be in a parallel world where broadcast tv was not subject to censorship -perhaps in a world where Elon Musk had co-opted both NBC and the FCC.
With five crummy porn skits as the main event, the show has a public tv station version of "Weekend Update" with Billy Dee and Jamie Summers as anchors delivering the lurid news of the week. Unfunny attempted humor is loaded with name dropping but the principal scandals covered range from Iran/Contra (and Jon Martin giving the worst Ronald Reagan impersonation ever attempted) featuring Joey Silvera taking off on Col. Oliver North, to making fun of Gary Hart's sexcapade as a presidential candidate humping Megan Leigh as sunbather Jessica Hump, plus Tom Byron and Jacqueline Lorians as Jimmy and Tammy Faye Bakker (with Lorians well-madeup to resemble her target, better than even Jessica Chastain's recent turn. Director PT even shows up taking off on Jerry Falwell as well as briefly seen as a crew member of the news show we're watching.
It's silly, and way too obvious to be funny, Having Megan Leigh in another skit making fun of Vanna White (a really random target for satire) having sex with Ronald Reagan. Title derives from Silvera's Oliver North taking incriminating photos to blackmail people, when he's not shredding documents (including the U. S. Constitution).
PT has often aimed higher than the lowest of lowbrow entertainment, but this is an example of him conforming to the destructive conventional wisdom that porn is crap -a self-fulfilling prophecy 35 years later when porn has turned gonzo.
