Covering nearly fifty years of mid-19th-century turmoil, from the tumultuous Texas Revolution to the early women's suffrage movement, "True Women" is a gripping tale of endurance, love, and above all, gritty female determination.
Three young men go rob a man and two of the robbers get shot and the third robber shoots the man dead. The one guy left standing assumes his 2 buddies are dead, grabs the money and leaves. Johnny survives and goes to prison for 5 years, one robber dies, and the 3rd guy gets away with the money scot-free and lies to Hayden's sister that Johnny killed Hayden. When Johnny is released, Gloria meets him and tells him that he is dead just like her brother. She asks her boyfriend, Patty, to kill Johnny but he can't because he knows he did not kill her brother. In the meantime, Johnny wants to go straight and gets into boxing and Patty gets sexually involved with Gloria's mother, Liz, who is a drug addicted night club singer with a bad leg. Gloria gets rather angry with Patty and Liz and problems ensue.Written by
I am amazed that this film got such a low score. I personally thought it was a very convincing and moving mood piece and was well acted all round. Quite clearly an indie film and a character study but has a plot that moves along quite quickly and gives plenty of opportunity for reflection without ever moralising or passing judgement or overtly trying to make a social or political statement. No clear good guys and bad guys but rather interesting and individual characters caught up in a bad situation. Apart from anything else it had a great soundtrack/score and the original song by Rosanna Arquette was fantastic!
Perhaps the problem is that Angelina Jolie fans picked this one up for a perve?
