Blade Runner 2049 is One of the Greatest Films Ever Made

How is a problem like Rick Deckard solved? The proverbial Schrodinger’s protagonist has been trapped in a quantum state, as both Replicant and real boy, since the origami-unicorn finale of Blade Runner. Any sequel must answer the largest question in sci-fi, and, you can rest assured that Blade Runner 2049 does exactly that -sort of. But it is a testament to Denis Villeneuve’s scintillating cyberpunk sequel that the director renders the question of Deckard’s identity as not that important. This film has far bigger artificial fish to fry!

Not Your Average Superhero Smackdown

In the same way that real money blackjack is nothing alike the pomp and artifice of slots games, Blade Runner 2049 is galaxies away from the quirky, quip-ridden superhero smash-ups that can be said to dominate modern blockbusters. This film is a deliberately paced one, with rich themes to tell its neo-noir detective story

Halloween 2017: Siblings & Scares Double Feature – Mom’S Got A Date With A Vampire and Hocus Pocus

  • DailyDead
[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]

There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.

Perhaps the less-known of the two films, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire will likely ring a nostalgic bell for

Younger Review: How Long Can Charles and Liza Stay Under Wraps?

The title of this week’s Younger is probably the most on the nose title the series has ever had. “A Novel Marriage” was quite literal in revolving around Pauline’s book, a satire of her life being married to Charles. While Pauline puts the past behind her with this novel, she is completely unaware of the triangle she is apart of. As much as this episode was about Pauline, Liza, and Charles’s triangle, it put a lot of emphasis on the importance of a woman’s career in her life. Liza and Pauline have similar stories, and in different ways are choosing

‘Blair Witch’: This Kickstarter Page Sure Looks Like Viral Marketing
The allure of the original “Blair Witch Project” had much to do with the popular perception that it was “real” — that this camcorder footage was unscripted and documenting something that actually occurred in the woods of Maryland. It didn’t, of course, but the shoestring production’s influence on the horror genre was massive in terms of both content and marketing. 17 years later, it appears as though Adam Wingard’s “Blair Witch” might be trying to recapture that spirit via a potentially fake Kickstarter page. (At least we hope it’s fake.)

With a funding period of February 1 to March 3 of 2014, the campaign claims to have successfully crowdfunded a film called “The Absence of Closure.” Directed by Lisa Arlington and billing itself as a “feature-length documentary that examines the tragedy of ambiguous loss,

Review: ‘The Woods’ Delivers The ‘Blair Witch’ Sequel We Wanted 15 Years Ago

Review: ‘The Woods’ Delivers The ‘Blair Witch’ Sequel We Wanted 15 Years Ago
It’s been 17 years since “The Blair Witch Project” changed the horror genre and independent filmmaking forever, and yet the new surprise sequel, “Blair Witch” (formerly known as “The Woods”) is hoping you’ve forgotten — at least a little bit. Helmed by Adam Wingard (“You’re Next,” “The Guest”) and written by his regular collaborator Simon Barrett, “Blair Witch” is shot, constructed and executed just like the original. And the slow-build fright fest will please genre purists — perhaps enough to reinvigorate the potential franchise — even if it feels all too familiar to the rest of us.

Starting in the very (scary) house we left off in — a fact given away in the trailer — Wingard and Barrett introduce us to four fresh faces, one of which holds close ties to a victim from the original. Driven to the woods for answers, the group also aims to make a documentary on their friend’s eerie journey.

‘The Woods’: Fans Freak Out As Horror Film Revealed To Be A Surprise Sequel To ‘Blair Witch’

Adam Wingard has become the de facto king of indie horror over the past several years thanks to hits like “You’re Next” and “The Guest,” and he recently brought chills to the small screen by directing Cinemax’s “Outcast” premiere, but he might just have his biggest hit with “The Woods.” The horror film just premiered at Comic-Con after months of mysterious anticipation (remember that debut trailer that touted the project as the scariest film ever made?), and with it comes a major bombshell of a revelation: “The Woods” is an official sequel to “The Blair Witch Project.”

New Details About Princess Leia, Supreme Leader Snoke, And Maz Kanata In 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Emerge

With Disney keeping a firm grip on who can see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" early (basically, nobody outside the studio), nothing is going be spoiled about the movie before opening day, barring Harrison Ford getting raging drunk and doing a Periscope session. So, we'll just have to decipher what we can from the clues that are emerging, most recently, in EW. First up, among the old school returning faces will be Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia, but Luke Skywalker's sister will have a new name. “She’s referred to as General,” J.J. Abrams said. “But … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess.’” Read More: Disney Will Not Screen 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Early For Awards Consideration To Keep Spoilers Under Wraps “The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there’s not much goofing around where Leia’s concerned,

New Tomorrowland Trailer Cranks up the Action While Keeping the Plot Under Wraps

Disney has released a new Tomorrowland trailer along with four new posters. The plot follows Casey (Britt Robertson), an optimistic young teen with scientific curiosity, teams up with a disillusioned former boy-genius inventor (George Clooney) to embark on a journey to uncover the secrets “of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as ‘Tomorrowland.’” With the movie only a month away, I would expect Disney to give away pretty much everything with this latest trailer, but there’s a surprising amount of restraint. Instead, this trailer takes us deep into one of the film’s set pieces, and it’s one that clearly takes place in the first act. While I’m already sold on Tomorrowland and don’t want to know anything more about it, the Disney marketing machine is relentless, and they’ll be showing more than six minutes of footage

New Pee-wee Herman Movie Headed to Netflix With Judd Apatow Producing; Plot Details Under Wraps

A few months back we reported that a new Pee-Wee Herman movie was "imminent." I also wondered aloud if producer Judd Apatow was still involved (I was very much hoping he was, to be sure) and now it appears as if both facets of this are true.  While rumors have persisted for some time that this movie would indeed be happening, this appears to be our wake-up call that it is actually legit and will be hitting screens at some point in our lifetime.  And, like many of our favorite resurrected pieces of IP, it will be on Netflix. That's right, the new Pee-Wee Herman movie will be produced for, and stream on, Netflix.  I actually think this is a pretty good idea considering there's no way to really assure a giant theatrical turnout for the beloved character, despite a core base that loves performer Paul Reubens.  And this way

Kpf Exclusive Clip: Under Wraps

If you found a really cool piece of jewelry in the room of someone who hadn't been alive for hundreds of years and had no heirs, would you take it for yourself? It's not like the dead guy is using it, right?

Well, that's exactly what Danny (Drake Bell) does in Under Wraps, not knowing that the amulet he takes from the tomb of an ancient Pharoah is actually cursed and he unleashes mummies and other villains into the modern day world.

Check out KidsPickFlicks/Fanlala Exclusive clip of Under Wraps (also starring the voices of Brooke Shields and Matthew Lillard). It's available on DVD on Oct. 14 (just in time for Halloween!):
