With a mother as over-protective and skittish as Keri/ Laurie is, it is highly irregular that she wouldn't personally observe the buses departing for Yosemite and, therefore, see that her son was absent. She is also headmistress of the school and would likely be missed.
(at around 12 mins) The newspaper clip shown during the opening credits, which states that Laurie Strode died in a car accident, says that she was a survivor of the "Halloween murders" of 1968. They took place in 1978.
(at around 12 mins) A yearbook page with Laurie Strode's picture on it is shown toward the beginning of the film. Above her picture it says "Class of 1978." But if she were in school in October 1978, then she wouldn't normally have graduated until the following spring, in 1979. So therefore, she is Class of 1979.
(at around 57 mins) The look of the mask changes back and forth for the scene where Charlie gets killed upstairs (the original mask was deemed unsatisfactory after principal photography was complete and some, but not all, scenes involving the mask were re-shot).
(at around 27 mins) As Keri/Laurie is walking down the sidewalk in town she briefly watches a group of trick or treaters walking across the street. This distraction causes her to bump into a group of trick or treaters on her side of the street. The group across the street and the group she bumps into are the same, judging by the costumes they are wearing.
(at around 1h 13 mins) When Michael Myers crashes through the window with the knife in his chest the knife is sideways as if tucked under his jacket, when Laurie Strode/Keri Tate inspects the body in the next scene it is as it should be, vertical as if thrust into the body.
(at around 41 mins) When Norma (Janet Leigh) startles Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) after the buses leave, she is as tall as Curtis (to give a proper scare) but in the next shot, from behind Laurie she is much shorter. Also, earlier in Laurie's office, Norma is clearly almost a foot shorter than Laurie/Keri.
(at around 1h 8 mins) When Laurie, John and Molly are running away from Michael to the car, John is pushed into the back seat, when the door is closed, a very bright stage light is reflected into the window.
The original movie has dialogue suggesting that it is Friday--in actuality, Halloween 1978 was a Tuesday. This movie also suggests that it takes place on a Friday, but Halloween of 1998 was actually a Saturday.
Scream 2 is playing in the background in one of the scenes. However, the original Scream had the first Halloween playing in one of its scenes, thus effectively negating the universe the Halloween movies take place in.
At approximately 28 mins in Laurie gets out of her car and looks across the road to see some kids in costume and one little girl in a clown costume just like Michael wore, the same kids and the little girl immediately run by her on her side.
(at around 1h 16 mins) When Laurie is driving the van with "Michael" in it, notice in the long shots the road is solid pavement or concrete, a very "beaten path," however inside the van if you look outside the back window you can see the road is in excellent condition and has the yellow stripe down the middle separating the lanes.
The goof items below may give away important plot points.
When the Van pins Michael Myers to the fence in the long shot just after the crash the engine bursts into flame. In the close up when Laurie Strode/Keri Tate is talking to Michael before beheading him there are no flames.
