Wishmaster is one of those movies that is a treat for horror geeks. Featuring some of the genre’s most iconic actors part of the fun is hunting out all the Easter eggs that are so easy to spot. The question is, on revisiting the film, does The Djinn (Andrew Divoff) still have what it takes to make your dreams come true?

When a Persian statue of Ahura Mazda is broken, a red jewel is discovered within. Given to Alexandra Amberson (Tammy Lauren) to evaluate for auction, she accidentally awakens the Djinn inside. While capturing more souls inside the jewel, he chases down Alexandra with the aim

Home Entertainment: Vestron Collector’s Series ‘The Gate’, ‘The Lair of the White Worm’ & ‘Wishmaster’ Review

At the tail end of last year, Lionsgate UK released a wave of restored horror films from the bowels of Vestron Video. Vestron Video was a pioneer in home entertainment and was one of the leaders in the VHS craze of the eighties. They released an abundance of cult horror classics during their time and, though once thought lost forever to tape, some of their key titles have now been resurrected for the blu-ray generation. The first wave of releases included fully restored blu-ray conversions of Blood Diner, C.H.U.D II: Bud the Chud, Return of the Living Dead 3 and Waxwork. Today sees the release of a whole new set of movies: The Gate, The Lair of the White Worm and Wishmaster.

Available for the first time ever on blu-ray, the discs contain not only the cult films themselves, but a plethora of special materials. These range from audio commentaries,

Aliens’ “Frost” joins the cast of ‘The Shinjuku Five’

A couple of weeks ago we brought you news that Aussie actor Roger Ward had joined the cast of the film and now we can exclusively share the next piece of casting for the eagerly awaited new movie from Black Forest Films & Lady of the Light Productions – who have partnered up to make the ambitious feature currently in pre-production.

As if mining the talents of one genre star wasn’t enough, the production team have announced that Ricco Ross – who played Frost in Aliens, as well as appearing in Death Wish 3 and Wishmaster (though I’ll always remember him as Kassim in the Highlander TV show, as well as his appearances in a bunch of 90s Dtv action movies like Project: Shadowchaser and Timelock) – has joined the cast of The Shinjuku Five; and is set to play Ronny, a sleazy Shinjuku night club owner.

Says producer Lucinda Bruce:

‘Demons’ Review

Stars: Miles Doleac, Lindsay Anne Williams, Andrew Divoff, John Schneider, Steven Brand, Kristina Emerson, Gary Grubbs | Written and Directed by Miles Doleac

Eight years ago, Father Colin Hampstead oversaw an aborted exorcism that resulted in the gruesome death of seventeen-year-old Jewel Grant, in rural Louisiana. The deceased girl’s older sister, Kayleigh, grew immediately attached to Hampstead and sought him out, at first for grief counseling and then, for much more. Eight years later, Hampstead has left the priesthood and become a celebrated fiction writer, specializing in stories about the occult, and he and Kayleigh, now his wife, have a beautiful daughter and run a well-known bed and breakfast in Savannah, Ga. When the couple agrees to host a wedding for one of Colin’s college friends, what begins as a Big Chill-type reunion turns into something much more macabre, as the seemingly omnipresent ghost of her dead sister Jewel

Now on Blu-ray: The Wishmaster Collection Arrives From Vestron Video

By 1997, the creature feature was all but dead in the horror world. Films like From Beyond, The Fly, The Beast Within, and dozens of others were very popular in the '80s and early '90s, but by the time Wes Craven upended the genre with Scream, people had already started getting cynical about horror and the lens had largely turned inward. However, the idea of the gruesome monster laying waste to guilty and innocent alike wasn't completely dead, and in '97 the Djinn was born. Wishmaster was written by Peter Atkins, best known for his work on the Hellraiser series, and directed by FX wizard Robert Kurtzman, then a part of the legendary Knb Efx Group with Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger. Kurtzman had years...

March 28th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Wishmaster Collection, A Monster Calls

Well, March is definitely “going out like a lamb” (as the old saying goes) when it comes to horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, as there are only several different titles coming home this Tuesday.

Universal Studios is releasing J.A. Bayona’s heartbreaking modern fable, A Monster Calls, to both Blu-ray and DVD this week, and if you're a cult film fan, then you have a few fun movies to look forward to adding to your home collections: Witchtrap, Venom, and the four-film collection for Wishmaster, a new addition to the Vestron Video Collector’s Series.

Other notable releases for March 28th include Mortuary Massacre, The Abduction of Jennifer Grayson, Park Chan-Wook's The Handmaiden (which finally gets the Blu-ray treatment), and for the little monster fans, Monster High: Electrified.

Vestron Video’s ‘Wishmaster Collection’ Brings the Evil Djinn Into HD

The films are an example of diminishing returns, but the collection is more than the franchise’s fans could have wished for.

There are rumors that Lionsgate’s fantastic Vestron Video line of remastered, supplement-filled Blu-rays celebrating horror films from the ’80s and ’90s may be closing up shop. It’s unconfirmed, and LG themselves have been mum on the subject, but it would be an unfortunate turn of events for genre fans if true. They’re only nine releases in, but already they’ve done tremendous work with fantastic new editions of fun classics like Chopping Mall, Waxwork, and The Gate.

Their most recent release, and possibly their last if the rumor proves true, is the four-film Wishmaster Collection. As someone who had never seen the first film and was utterly unaware that three sequels even existed this set offered a first-time watch across the board. So of course I binge-watched all four across a single

Drive-In Dust Offs: Just Before Dawn (1981)

Although he hasn’t made very many films, Jeff Lieberman is a unique voice in the world of horror. From Squirm (1976) through to Satan’s Little Helper (2004), he’s crafted only a handful of feature length films, each one different than the last. Watching him tackle a different sub-genre is like looking at a new painting by a great artist. Just Before Dawn (1981) is his take on backwoods butcher clans, an inbred cross of Deliverance and Friday the 13th. Everyone should own a Lieberman. This one is mine.

Released by Picturmedia (the fine folks behind Mako: The Jaws of Death) in October, Just Before Dawn played the grindhouses and drive-ins before shuffling off this mortal coil. Of course it had a home video release, but slipped through the cracks there as well. It’s only been with the advent of the internet and social media that people are starting to

Flashback Weekend Chicago 2016 Kicks off Friday, Featuring Scream Reunion & Phantasm: Remastered Screenings

It’s hard to believe another Flashback Weekend is almost upon us, but in just a few days, Chicago’s longest-running horror convention will descend upon the Crowne Plaza O’Hare (5440 N. River Road, Rosemont, Il), where thousands of fans will gather to celebrate everything they love about the genre. This writer is pleased to be returning to Flashback Weekend for my sixth year as co-host. Two personal highlights for me at this year’s convention have to be the Scream Reunion Screening and Q&A on Saturday evening, featuring Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, and Matthew Lillard, as well as seeing Don Coscarelli returning to Flashback, this time with Phantasm: Remastered in tow.

Other featured guests at the 2016 Flashback Weekend Horror Convention include Malcolm McDowell,
