Storyline

When a typhoon cripples their boat, the crew sails into the eye of the storm, where they discover a high-tech Russian communications and research vessel adrift. Only one Russian crew member is still alive, raving about "intelligent lightning." They soon discover that an alien life form has taken over the ship's computers and is churning out mechanical warriors. With their own boat destroyed, the crew must battle the creature as the ship reenters the storm. Written by Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}

Trivia

In the Russian film distribution all Russian speech in an introductory scene was entirely dubbed into Russian again, because of very strong accent (Joanna Pacula speaks Russian with very noticeable accent) and very poor audibility and noticeable plainness. See more »

Goofs

Near the beginning of the film, when the energy beam coming from the Russian station strikes the research ship, the whole control room shakes and crew is thrown off balance. Yet, a chess board on a nearby table remains completely undisturbed, revealing the "movement" is simply a shaky camera. See more »

Quotes

Captain Everton: Everton is the dominant species. I am Everton.

Alternate Versions

The DVD contains three deleted scenes:
  • a discussion between Foster and Richie, in which Richie says he doesn't like Foster aboard a ship, which is followed by a discussion of Hiko's tattoos. Then Hiko tells Baker about his ancestors and his greatest fear;
  • an extended version of the scene where Foster and Baker flee using the rocket motors; and
  • the original entrance of Everton into the Antenna Control room, which was changed in the theatrical release because the studio felt that adding computer generated robotic legs would cost too much and because the test audiences didn't like the line "It's me: Bob."

Salvage, salvage
30 December 2005 | by shhazam2See all my reviews

Say what you want about this movie not meeting expectations of the 90's but it was very entertaining and thats most of what I expect from any good movie.

Bad aliens, greed, bravery, bravado, science gone bad and survival all play major parts in this flick.

Strong women, brave men and treacherous men are a good mix for any story and this movie has them in abundance.

The aliens seem to want something from humans and its not in the best interest of these humans to meet their needs.

Try not to be comparing this movie to other sci-fi and just enjoy an interesting twist on the genre.
