Clive Owen stars in teaser trailer for Anon

Sky Cinema UK have launched the first teaser trailer for upcoming sci-fi thriller Anon starring Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried.

The latest from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show, Gattaca, In Time), Anon is his latest meditation on the fraught relationship between technology and humanity. In a modern world where advanced biosyn implants mean everyone is subjected to a relentless visual stream of information, they call the ‘Mind’s Eye’, privacy and anonymity as we know it has vanished. With everyone’s personal information on public display and each person’s life recorded down to the millisecond, personal information is downloaded to a vast grid called ‘The Ether’, a database which law enforcement can access and use to prosecute criminals.

The first trailer for Dark Crimes is here. While you may not have heard of Dark Crimes, or the insane true story that inspired the movie, you've almost certainly heard of Jim Carrey, who stars as the protagonist. Carrey hasn't been acting as much these days, but he returns in a very serious role as an obsessive cop in what looks to be a very gritty true-crime thriller.

Dark Crimes, originally titled True Crimes, is based on David Grann's 2008 New Yorker article titled True Crimes: A postmodern murder mystery. Director Alexandros Avranas (Love Me Not) brings the real-life tale to the screen, with Jim Carrey on board as a detective who becomes obsessed with a murder case. You can never escape the Oscars. Even once the winner has been crowned, publications start talking about the next crop of hopefuls. There have already been vague articles on this already and people are already talking about Black Panther’s chances at becoming the first superhero movie to get a Best Picture nomination. One of the more fun and subjective lists that appear in the aftermath of Hollywood’s favourite pseudo-event is the “snubbed” list of nominees the writer thought should have won on the night. The type that scream that Laurie Metcalf was robbed!

Well, we at Flickering Myth want to take this one step further. We’ve had a group therapy session and created our “Greatest Oscar Snubs of All Time” list focusing on those great gems that somehow weren’t gifted a nomination.

The reason two-time Academy Award nominee David Hare (“The Hours,” “The Reader”) wanted to write the BBC2/Netflix limited series “Collateral” is that he felt no one else was writing television about the issue at its center: Illegal immigration.

“I think the movement of people is the biggest subject of the 21st century and nobody’s writing about it,” he said to IndieWire in a recent interview. “In the last few summers, we’ve had attempted mass migration from Libya, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, from everywhere. People are trying to get into Western countries. And obviously the West is trying to protect itself against the arrival of these people. This is going to play out in the coming years. I wanted to write about it as a matter of urgency.”

Great news everyone: Andrew Niccol has a new film on the way. If the name doesn't sound familiar, then he's the filmmaker behind The Truman Show (which he wrote) and the wonderful Gattaca - a film we absolutely do not go on about at tedious length whenever we get the chance.

Not all of Niccol's films strike box-office gold, but there's always something interesting going on in them. In Time wasn't in Gattaca's league, but it still made for a diverting sci-fi twist on Bonnie And Clyde. The writer-director's most decent film, Good Kill, was a quite underrated thriller about drone warfare - Ethan Hawke's leading performance alone made it good value.

Mike Flanagan’s Before I Wake Coming to Netflix in the Us on January 5th

Horror fans have been looking forward to seeing Mike Flanagan's Before I Wake since the film was teased in trailers back in 2015, but bankruptcy issues at Relativity Media delayed and ultimately brought the movie's release to a halt. Since that time, Flanagan directed two well-received films for Netflix, and the streaming service has now revealed that they will bring Before I Wake out of film purgatory and into the warm glow of the TV screen.

Netflix revealed the exciting Before I Wake news in their full announcement of titles being added to their streaming lineup in January of 2018. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, and Kate Bosworth, Before I Wake will be available to watch on the streaming service beginning Friday, January 5th, marking its first official release in the Us (it was previously released internationally, including in the UK by Netflix).

A 79-page complaint was filed on Wednesday in California federal court. The subject of this lawsuit is Emma Cline's best-selling novel, The Girls, as well as the supposed movie version that is forthcoming. Russell Crowe wants to set sail with Master and Commander sequel

When The Truman Show director Peter Weir launched Master and Commander back in 2003, it was to be the first voyage of many, with a post-Gladiator Russell Crowe captaining a franchise based on Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey Maturin novels.

Unfortunately, despite positive reviews, the $93 million domestic gross against a $150 million budget meant that 20th Century Fox packed away the sails for good.
