Cate Blanchett

Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film

Blanchett has had a busy year in 2018. The Stanley Kubrick honoree headed the Cannes Film Festival jury, starred on the big screen in female-heist caper “Ocean’s 8,” as well as, “The House With a Clock in the Walls,” and made her Broadway debut in Chekhov’s “The Present,” for which she won a Tony nomination.

At Cannes, Blanchett led a gender equality march up the Palais steps with fellow juror Ava DuVernay, as well as Agnes Varda, Marion Cotillard, Patty Jenkins, Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux and Salma Hayek.

Meanwhile “Ocean’s 8,” in which she co-starred with marquee talent Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina and Sarah Paulson, grossed $296.7 million worldwide in 15 weeks since its June 8 opening. “The House With a Clock in the Walls,

'Truman Show' Pad in Florida Spared from Hurricane Michael's Destruction
This is Not a figment of Truman Burbank's imagination ... the house where Jim Carrey filmed "The Truman Show" was smack in the path of Hurricane Michael's 155 mph winds, but somehow dodged disaster. Exteriors for the 1998 flick were shot at this home in Seaside, Fl and, despite the approaching category 4 storm, the owners tell us they did very little to protect the house. They trusted the fact it's sitting on a solid foundation, and hoped for the best.

Kidding Season 1 Episode 4 Review – ‘Bye, Mom’

Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of Kidding

There is a depth of exploration and intellectual curiosity which frames Showtime’s Kidding which underpins, asks questions and challenges what audiences should expect from their dramatic television. Manipulation of identity for personal and corporate gain exist alongside heartfelt deviations into notions of gender identity, sexual attraction and issues of religion. What is laid over the top of these themes, notions, ideas and concepts serves to distract but entertain.

Similar in part to Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy or The Simpsons, Jeff Pickles and his innocent brand of televisual learning are more than mere leading man sleight of hand. Carrey, Keener, Langella and Greer are all in on the joke which hides in plain sight. Pitching an audience heart breaking family drama and off kilter moments of existential humour alongside debates on our reincarnation as cucumbers is brave. Thankfully working in conjunction

Ryan Reynolds Teams Up With Stranger Things' Shawn Levy For Free Guy

Ryan Reynolds has signed on to star in a new film project at 20th Century Fox called Free Guy. Stranger Things producer and director Shawn Levy has also jumped on board the film’s director.

According to Deadline, the story for Free Guy is in the “vein of The Truman Show, where a bank teller stuck in his routine discovers he’s a background character in a rather brutal open world, action-adventure video game and he is the only one capable of saving his world.”

I like that concept and it sounds like it could be fun! With the talent that they have on board to bring the story to life, this could be a good and entertaining movie.

DC TV producer Greg Berlanti is also on board to produce the film.

Laff 2018 Review: American Dreamer

  • DailyDead
Whenever a comedian takes on a dramatic role, critics and audiences alike react one of two ways: they either reject the performance outright for being anything but what the comic is famous for being, or they celebrate it like they’ve just seen a bear doing a card trick. Bill Murray’s turn in The Razor’s Edge? Rejected. Jim Carrey’s performance in The Truman Show? Bear doing a card trick. Comedians are so boxed in to being funny that we either won’t let them out of the box or we fall all over ourselves when they demonstrate the ability to do more than one thing.

Comedian Jim Gaffigan has had dramatic roles before, as recently as Chappaquiddick earlier this year. But he’s never had a dramatic role as substantial or as unbelievably dark as in American Dreamer, the latest film from director Derrick Borte (The Joneses

Ryan Reynolds to Star in Shawn Levy Action Comedy Free Guy

Joseph Baxter Sep 28, 2018

Free Guy will see Ryan Reynolds headline an action-comedy helmed by Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has no shortage of projects, thanks to his acclaimed, financially fulfilling comeback as Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth. Interestingly, the latest addition to Reynolds’s backlog, a comedy called Free Guy, will purportedly utilize the artificial-world trope of The Truman Show with a dash of tonal dust from the Grand Theft Auto games.

Ryan Reynolds is set to headline 20th Century Fox comedic actioner Free Guy, as trades report. Reynolds will play a bank teller living a humdrum routine life, only to learn that he is, in actuality, a background character in a violent open world video game; a world that is somehow in jeopardy and can only be saved by him.

Free Guy will be directed by Shawn Levy, a longtime producer, who

Emmy episode analysis: Ed Harris (‘Westworld’) questions his reality in ‘Vanishing Point’

Emmy episode analysis: Ed Harris (‘Westworld’) questions his reality in ‘Vanishing Point’
After missing the cut in the Drama Supporting Actor category last year, Ed Harris made the leap to Best Drama Actor and scored a deserved Emmy nomination for his performance as William on HBO’s “Westworld.” This is his third Emmy nomination after previous bids for the miniseries “Empire Falls” and “Game Change.” The actor is also a four-time Academy Award nominee thanks to his roles in “Apollo 13,” “The Truman Show,” “Pollock” and “The Hours.” He has submitted the episode “Vanishing Point” for Emmy consideration.

In “Vanishing Point,” William remembers a time when his wife Juliet (Sela Ward) was still alive. Juliet must be taken home after drinking too much at a party, and their daughter Emily (Katja Herbers) suggests that she return to rehab. As William tucks his wife into bed, she asks him to stop lying and tell her “one true thing.” He admits there is some type of “stain” within him,

‘Kidding’: Michel Gondry and Dave Holstein on Finding the ‘Scary’ Side of Mr. Rogers to Save Us From Antihero TV

‘Kidding’: Michel Gondry and Dave Holstein on Finding the ‘Scary’ Side of Mr. Rogers to Save Us From Antihero TV
For a show that can be described as a dark, screwy take on the legacy of Fred Rogers, “Kidding” makes a deliberate effort to escape the legacy of the man with infinite cardigans and good cheer.

“I certainly didn’t want Jim to approach the role thinking of Mr. Rogers like the original man,” director Michel Gondry said. “I really didn’t want that. It’s not the story of Mr. Rogers. It’s much more. I mean, I don’t know much about Mr. Rogers, but we tried to get away as much as possible.”

The inspiration is undeniable. Jim Carrey plays Jeff Piccirillo, aka “Mr. Pickles,” the host of a wildly popular children’s show who’s also dealing with the disintegration of his real life behind the scenes, a concept concocted by creator/showrunner David Holstein.

When he first began writing “Kidding” as a spec script, Holstein

‘Real Time’: Jim Carrey Sports Nike, Bill Maher Wants Al Franken Back In Game

‘Real Time’: Jim Carrey Sports Nike, Bill Maher Wants Al Franken Back In Game
Update with video Jim Carrey wore a new pair of Nike sneakers and Bill Maher implored Al Franken to rejoin the political game, as HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher capped yet another very bad week for President Donald Trump.

“Check this out,” Carrey said, joining the episode as the mid-point guest and propping his sneakered feet on Maher’s desk. “I went out today and bought me some Nikes, some freedom-friendly Nikes – a salute to Colin Kaepernick, to Nike. Congratulations…”

Showtime’s Kidding star was referring, of course, to the Trump-infuriating Nike commercial spotlighting Kaepernick with the ad copy: “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

After some reminiscing about their early comedy club days, Carrey and Maher jumped from The Truman Show to a real-life generation of children “growing up right now,” as Carrey said, “who are learning to lie, that lying is okay, that it’s fake news,

‘Kidding’ Review: Jim Carrey Is All Heart in Showtime Tragicomedy

‘Kidding’ Review: Jim Carrey Is All Heart in Showtime Tragicomedy
In the world of sad clowns, there are the ones who hide how much they’re crying on the inside, because they want to give the people what they want. And then there are the ones who let their inner darkness out as early and often as possible.

Jim Carrey belongs to the latter group. He rose to TV fame playing comic grotesques like burn victim Fire Marshal Bill and steroid abuser Vera de Miloon on In Living Color, then became a movie sensation with the 1994 trifecta of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,

So, the VMAs happened on Monday night, and I'm still trying to figure out if it was a real show or if MTV was punking me for part of it . . . and I'm not the only one. There were so many crazy moments that went down, and to be fair, it wasn't all a hot mess. We saw some stellar performances - including Logic's "One Day" featuring Ryan Tedder and Ariana Grande's "God Is a Woman" - but they sadly didn't cancel out those bewilderingly awkward moments that left me wondering if we were all in a The Truman Show situation. Read on for the standout moments that really, truly happened on live TV.

William H. Macy movies: 15 greatest films, ranked worst to best, include ‘Fargo,’ ‘Boogie Nights,’ ‘The Cooler’
William H. Macy received his fifth Emmy nomination in 2018 for playing Frank Gallagher, the outright horrible father of the Gallagher clan on “Shameless.” In total Macy has received a whopping 14 Emmy nominations for his work as an actor, writer, and producer. He won for two of those nominations back in 2003 for his acting and writing the TV movie “Door to Door.” While he has yet to take home an Emmy for “Shameless,” he has won the Screen Actors Guild Award three times. But it’s his film career for the focus of our photo gallery above, so take a tour of Macy’s 15 greatest movies, ranked from worst to best.

Macy had a long career on the stage and in episodic television and film, seemingly destined to be one of those actors who works steadily but never really becomes a household name. That changed in the mid-1990s. After appearing
