MPAA Rated PG-13 on appeal for strong language, thematic elements, nudity and a beating

Sex & Nudity

  • One of the main characters is gay, and his sexuality is referenced (though not often in graphic terms) multiple times. At one point he is asked if he has ever gotten an erection over a woman.
  • A man goes home with a woman after a date and he asks her suggestively where the bedroom is. They make out on a couch and he fondles her breasts and runs his tongue along her face.
  • A male prostitute is hired to pose for a painting. Misunderstanding, he manages to take most of his clothes off (part of his backside is visible) before the artist informs him that it's not a nude painting. ("So much for love", the model mumbles to himself.) The model/prostitute strikes a few crude poses.
  • A woman gets soaked from walking in the rain and her nipples are quite visible through her wet top.
  • A woman declares that she will not sleep with a particular man.
  • A man says that his mother used to pose nude for his painting.
  • A woman is shown from behind wearing only a towel around her waist. Her breasts are briefly glimpsed from the side as well as part of her buttocks. She is also shown lying down fully nude, but with her arms and legs covering any vital areas. A man draws several nude paintings of her.
  • A man asked another man and a woman if they had sex because he saw them kiss.
  • A nude painting is seen on the wall.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is brutally beaten by three thugs. We see him later in the hospital covered with bruises, stitches, and casts, as well as throughout the film in a variety of healed stages.
  • One man physically shoves another man around and threatens him with violence. In another scene a man is knocked over and is nearly punched by another man in anger.

  • 3 F-words (one used as an insult) (All used by Helen Hunt's Character). several uses of shit and other obscenities. Several anatomical references, racial and sexual slurs (mostly in reference to homosexuality, i.e. "fag" and "fudge packer"). Bastard is also used.
  • The film was originally rated R because of its strong language.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man is seen with a cigarette, but is interrupted before he would start smoking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
