Storyline

A 25 year old female White House staffer, Carla Town, is murdered in the White House. D.C. homicide detective Regis is assigned to investigate, only to find evidence suppressed by the Secret Service. After suspecting a cover-up, Regis convinces Secret Service Agent Nina Chance to assist in uncovering the truth. The President's son Kyle Neil is a prime suspect, as he was having sex with Carla within an hour of her murder. While the investigation ensues, the President, Jack Neil, is holding meetings with top military personnel regarding North Korea's holding 23 U.S. military personnel hostage. Regis confronts top Secret Service Agent Spikings at his home shortly after Spikings returns with evidence leading to the murder. The home is attacked and Spikings is killed, but Regis makes it out alive with Agent Chance's assistance, and with the evidence tape. White House adviser Jordan presents false evidence to the President that his son killed Carla and forces the President to say he will ... Written by kewlvideo

Goofs

Nina Chance says that once the beams are broken at the White House entrance from the tunnel that the room will fill with agents in 10 seconds. It took at least 10 seconds for the person manning the security desk to give the location of the breach ("tunnels"). It is another 20 seconds before the first agent there even opens the door to "the room" (between the door and the beams). See more »

Quotes

General Clark Tully: You may be prepared to sit around here while they're torturing our boys, I'm not.
President Neil: We're not being passive, we're being patient - and prudent.
General Clark Tully: Mr. President, I feel duty bound to tell you that your lack of action here borders on the criminal.
President Neil: Then you've done your duty, General. Now, I'll do mine.

Standard fare, but well done.
14 September 2005 | by kmacleanSee all my reviews

Great performances by Ronny Cox and Wesley Snipes. A standard political thriller, made more interesting by Snipes' character's interest in history. He has made huge models of the DC area in his apartment, and uses them to solve a murder case that threatens to bring down the president. The gorgeous Diane Lane gives a creditable performance as a secret service agent. I liked the fact that the two main characters never have sex. Their relationship suggests it, and I kept waiting for the usual (and boring) bedroom scene. Sex is often used as a gimmick to hold interest in a boring plot and uninteresting characters. You either like the plot and this movie for what it is, or you don't.
