Storyline

"Destination Anywhere" is a contemporary film noir set on the streets of a gritty, yet colorful Manhattan neighborhood. Jon Bon Jovi stars as Jon, a man on the run from his home, his gambling debts, and his marriage. He is summoned back to New York to deal with his emotionally estranged wife, Janie, and emergency room nurse who has never fully recovered from the hit-and-run death of their only child several years ago. Jon returns to chaos, Janie is out of control and his debts have caused his life to be in danger. He struggles to cope with the troubles at home, but has built walls that are too thick to penetrate and the problems only escalate between Jon and Janie. When an abandoned baby is found in a dumpster and brought to the hospital where Janie works, a series of events is set in motion that forces the couple to reassess the terms of their love, responsibility and commitment to one another. Quotes

Janie: Who was the patron saint of lost children? The sick, abandoned, neglected, abused? Their flesh thin as gauze too penetrable. Always balling when I try to sleep. Fist hugging the hem of my nightgown. Haunting my dreams. Forlorn ghosts with questions dripping from their eyes. I hope some angel's looking out for them.

A great idea but never really delivers.
4 January 2001 | by Thea-8See all my reviews

This is a great idea from a musician determined to prove how serious he is about his acting career. Perhaps spurred on by his faultless performance in "The Leading Man", Jon Bon Jovi has taken on the lead role in a film which is a refreshing alternative to the formulaic Hollywood movies that the industry seems to be flooded with. With a genuinely interesting plot, brilliant direction and masterful use of the sound track that inspired it, this film is well worth watching. However, Bon Jovi appears to be out of his depth here, giving an often unresponsive performance, the relationship between the lead characters seems underdeveloped and the tension in the claustrophobic flat is never fully exploited. The ensemble doesn't really gel, and in places we get the impression that it's a rushed job. To be fair, this is an interesting piece of student drama from Bon Jovi. We can only speculate what he could have made of this project a few years down the line.
