(At around twenty minutes) When Paul (Charles Hallahan), Greg (Grant Heslov), Terry (Kirk Trutner), Stan (Tzi Ma), and Nancy (Arabella Field) arrive in Dante's Peak, Stan comments that the residents of the town must feel cozy by the mountain, and Nancy remarks "Yeah! Just like Pompeii." A nod to the historic volcanic disaster of the Roman city of Pompeii, near Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of commune of Pompei, on August 24, 79 A.D. When the entire city was wiped out, when the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, erupted, and sixteen thousand people were killed. See more »

First watched Dante's Peak when it was released in 1997 and as a kid thought it was brilliant. Just watched it again and I have to say, wow. It is a great film, full of entertainment and action. Yes it is cheesy at times and bits are a bit far fetched e.g. driving over lava, but putting that a side it is a fantastic film.
