According to an A&E biography, Chris Farley hated the film upon seeing it for the very first time and told his agent that he never wanted to do such a film again. Farley's stance was justified as it arguably attributed to the exploitation of his manic, physical humor by dumbing it down and playing it out to an almost tiring and foolish degree.

Chris Farley was injured on the set while doing one of his own stunts. When he was trying to hide like a ninja and jump through the wall - during one take he dove into the wall and hit a stud which did not break.

The film has multiple connections to the Mortal Kombat films: -Robin Shou, who plays Gobei in this film, portrayed Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat (1995) and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997). -Keith Cooke, who plays Nobu in this film, portrayed Reptile in Mortal Kombat (1995) and Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997). -Both this and the Mortal Kombat films feature music composed by George S. Clinton. -Even the trailer features a voiceover tagline of "they put the Mortal back in Kombat".

When Haru crashes through the wall riding on the spear gun cart, you can see the bomb fall to the floor right away. In the next take, you see it land on the cart and follow the rope onto the truck of the villain.
