Storyline

General Hammond summons Colonel Jack O'Neill out of retirement to embark on a secret rescue mission. O'Neill confesses that he disobeyed orders to destroy the Stargate on Planet Abydos, and that scientist Daniel Jackson may still be alive. Arriving on Abydos with his team, O'Neill meets up once again with the scientist, who has discovered a giant elaborate cartouche in hieroglyphics. All signs point to the fact that this is a map of many Stargates that exist throughout the galaxy - a development that makes the dream of the SG-1 team to travel throughout the universe in time a reality. Trivia

Peter DeLuise directed, wrote, and produced numerous episodes, and was creative consultant for nearly all of them. Many times, he found a way to appear in front of the camera (à la Alfred Hitchcock). He has played several airmen and villagers, "man leaving café", "shouting Jaffa", and even a younger, more handsome version of a character played by his father, Dom DeLuise. Peter's brother, Michael DeLuise, played the role of "Replacement Actor" on season ten, episode six, "200". See more »

Goofs

The very idea that most alien civilizations outside of Earth can speak English is a linguistic impossibility. English was developed long after the stargates were used to populate these other planets and furthermore, English is an amalgamation and evolution of other early languages unique to Earth after the Gou'ald. Nevertheless, production logistics and writing logistics made it more practical for alien encounters to speak English as to eliminate the repetition of Daniel deciphering the language and then translating the language to the rest of the team for any episode dealing with an alien race which were the majority of the episodes. This also helped eliminate the need for the writers to invent a new language for every new alien civilization encountered. This practice carried over into Stargate: Atlantis as well. See more »

Quotes

Prior: We are beacons on the road to enlightenment.
Cameron Mitchell: No, you're dark-side intergalactic encyclopedia salesmen. Unfortunately, the home office hasn't been quite upfront with you.
Dr. Daniel Jackson, Ph.D.: Nice work on the metaphor.
Cameron Mitchell: Thank you.

I'm in the gate!
16 August 2004 | by kudos4kkmsSee all my reviews

My mom was the first in our family to watch Stargate and I'd make fun of her. I'd call her a Sci-Fi freak or a Stargate loser! Then, I watched it and now I'm hooked. As some other people say the show is predictable...this is not completely true and when it is you know how it'll end up it's just how they get there that's interesting! This show is well written and preformed amazingly, plus they have extraordinarily talented actors. If you don't like Sci-Fi you won't like this show, but if you do you'll love it(plus there are hot guys in it too). Richard Dean Anderson is brilliant and extremely funny, since his character O'Neill is so cynical, sarcastic, and kickbutt (Amanda Tapping is also kickbutt)-which he says is a lot like himself. Even though this is just a Sci-Fi show the special effects look amazingly real and all of the costumes are amazing. This is a top of the line show...I totally recommend getting in the gate!
