Storyline

General Hammond summons Colonel Jack O'Neill out of retirement to embark on a secret rescue mission. O'Neill confesses that he disobeyed orders to destroy the Stargate on Planet Abydos, and that scientist Daniel Jackson may still be alive. Arriving on Abydos with his team, O'Neill meets up once again with the scientist, who has discovered a giant elaborate cartouche in hieroglyphics. All signs point to the fact that this is a map of many Stargates that exist throughout the galaxy - a development that makes the dream of the SG-1 team to travel throughout the universe in time a reality. Trivia

According to Carter (Amanda Tapping) in season six, the Stargate, made from Naquadah, weighed sixty-four thousand pounds (roughly twenty-nine metric tons). The primary on-set Stargate prop was made out of steel and fiberglass though, and was twenty-two feet (6.7 meters) in diameter. It was fully automated, and capable of rotating and emitting light. This was achieved by the use of a specially-designed twenty-two foot (6.7 meter) circular gear, which turned the inner ring on a precise pinion drive wheel, using an eight horsepower electric motor. Goofs

Jack O'Neill is a flag officer in the USAF and thus deputy commander of the Stargate program. This means that he would have an organizational rather than an operational role in the unit. He would not be allowed to go on most missions as his knowledge and expertise would have been exploited by an enemy were if he was captured. See more »

Alternate Versions

On the DVD version of the show, the beginning and ending episodes of season seven have had their formats tweaked. As originally aired, FALLEN and HOMECOMING aired as one two-hour episode with one set of opening and closing credits and the only episode titles are seen listed with the respective writers after the opening title sequence. The DVD devides them into the syndicated version of two separate episodes each with their own credits and with the separate episode title on each episode. The reverse is true for LOST CITY. Originally aired as two separate episodes, the two episodes have been merged into one with one two-hour episode with one opening and closing credits sequence and instead of being LOST CITY PART 1 and LOST CITY PART 2, the title is simply LOST CITY. Campy fun and to be taken with a pinch of salt
17 November 2013 | by epictetus111See all my reviews

To me there are two SG-1's. Seasons 1,9, & 10 should have been lost in some distant galaxy and forgotten ever existed. The other seasons are cherished campy fun Sci-Fi at its best. Which is probably why you see so many reviews with extremely different opinions. If you can, breeze quickly through some of the first season to get the story plot and ignore the filler episodes and ignore anything after season eight, then you will appreciate the show much better.

As a quick guide for the first season, just skip episodes 3,4,5 and 11. These are really bad filler episodes that skipping will not hurt future viewing at all. You could skip 14 and 15 but it does have some backstory to it. If I had to rate this show overall it gets a seven. However it would deserve a none or ten if they never did season 1,9, & 10.
