Trivia

In the original trailer for the film, we see a low angle shot of Ving Rhames and Pandora Peaks. That shot did not appear in the film because it took place during the original climax of the film. That climax was re-shot after being shown to a preview audience. Orginally, the final sequence took place in a sugar cane field. After preview audiences were uncomfortable with the scene, it was rewritten and re-shot in the sugar shack. We still see the final shots of the original sequence that shows a character being taken away in handcuffs. See more »

Why the hating? It was fun!
21 January 2005 | by See all my reviews

It may not have mirrored the book, but it has its own charm. I haven't read the book, so maybe that's why I can judge the movie on its own merits.

Ving Rhames is terrific-- honestly, has he ever had a clunker of a performance? Demi is luscious (the dance scenes, and the cute scene where she's getting dressed/dancing after a shower), and Burt Reynolds is hilarious. I really loved the congressman character meeting the right wing group slathered in vaseline. "Fresh, hot, lint!" indeed! Give it a whirl... it ain't Citizen Kane, but it ain't Battlefield Earth either.
