Brilliant and obese scientist Sherman Klump invents a miraculous weight-loss solution. After a date with chemistry student Carla Purty goes badly, a depressed Klump tries the solution on himself. Though he instantly loses 250 pounds, the side effects include a second personality: an obnoxiously self-assertive braggart who calls himself Buddy Love. Buddy proves to be more popular than Sherman, but his arrogance and bad behavior quickly spiral out of control.Written by
Consideration was briefly given to superimposing Eddie Murphy's face on Jamal Mixon's body during the dinner scenes. However, the effects tests were deemed unsatisfactory, and so Mixon became the only actor other than Murphy to play a member of the Klump family in this film or its sequel. See more »
By the 1996 setting of the film, only the lowest budget TV dinners had aluminum foil covering the meal. Plastic wrap had replaced it and even the food trays themselves were mostly hi-temp cardboard or corrugated paper. See more »
I assure you, I will not let you down.
You won't. I know you won't. As a matter of fact, I know you're going to be perfect! Do you know how I know all these things? I know them because if you're *not* perfect, nevermind the yelling, the screaming and the firing. If anything goes wrong, for any reason
I'm going to kill you. And I don't mean that as a euphemism, I am going to literally kill you. I'm going to strangle you and choke off your air supply until you pass away.

When Sherman Klump opens the drawer in his desk and reveals the secret compartment containing all the candy, there is a row of 'Snickers' bars on the top. In some T.V. versions, at least in the UK, the word 'Snickers' is digitally altered to 'Chocky'. See more »
In my opinion this is one of the funniest movies you will ever see. This Eddie Murphy at his brilliant best playing seven different characters in the one movie. This is pretty much a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde routine with Professor Sherman Klump (Murphy) creating a weight loss formula which transforms him into Buddy Love (Murphy). The best scenes of the movie are the dinner scenes at the Klump house where almost every character you see is Eddie Murphy. Very few other actors could have pulled this off. 10/10
