Sex & Nudity

  • Matilda's father refers to two men as "male strippers" and "bodybuilders".

Violence & Gore

  • A woman grabs another woman by the arm and threatens to break her arm like she says she did once before.
  • A woman visibly kicks a cat. It can be seen flying in the air before running away.
  • A girl and a woman sneak into another woman's house without her noticing.
  • A girl is thrown by her pigtails; she flies over a spiked fence and lands in a bed of flowers. She is not harmed.
  • A woman throws a boy out of a second story window. He flies back in, he is unharmed.
  • A woman throws darts at pictures of students on a dartboard on the back of a door. Another woman opens the door just as a dart hits the doorjamb near her face.
  • A woman is frequently shown chasing, threatening, and/or grabbing children.
  • Children throw food at a woman.
  • Miss Honey tells Matilda a story of how this little girl's mother died, and her aunt moved in to help her father raise. But, the aunt was mean and abused the girl.


  • When Harry asks Matilda what she's reading she tells him the title is "Moby Dick", to which he replies "Moby what?!"
  • Miss Trunchbull, and Matilda's dad are sometimes quite mean to Matilda

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man and a woman are shown drinking beer. Matilda's teacher is offered a beer, but declines it.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A boy Is held upside down by miss Trunchbull. He is then dropped on the floor.
  • The animal cruelty scene where Miss Trunchbull kicks the black cat may upset many viewers especially those who are sensitive to cats.
  • Some viewers may find the scenes where Miss Trunchbull confronts, terrorizes, and bullies the students frightening and/or intense.
  • Miss Trunchbull locks children in "The Chokey", which resembles a coffin and is tall enough to stand in. Nails are sticking in the door of it and steam pours out of it when it is opened. No one is depicted as being actually injured from being in it, but it could be scary for younger viewers.
  • When a child eats two M&M's in class, Miss Trunchbull forces him to spit them out, and then she throws him out the window. He is unharmed.
  • When Miss Trunchbull discovers Matilda and Miss Honey are in her house she goes on a violent rampage using a ball and chain trying to find them.

  • A room called "The Chokey" is a room with a foul smell with glass and nails in which students are put into as punishment.
  • Miss Trunchbull is accused of murdering Miss Honey's father, Magnus at the end of the movie.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Miss Trunchbull is revealed to be Miss Honey's aunt, and she tells Matilda the story of how she moved in after her mother's death and how her father suddenly died.
