It’s the start of a new year, which means much of the month’s attention will go to expanding December releases, including Nickel Boys, The Brutalist, The Room Next Door, Vermiglio, and a few films mentioned below that only got awards-qualifying runs in December. For new releases, though, January isn’t all cinematic doldrums if one digs deep enough, and we’ve collected the titles to have on your radar.

Ever since “The Last Showgirl” premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, Pamela Anderson has said it over and over: This is the screenplay, the project, that she’s been waiting to make her whole life. However, what often goes unsaid it is it’s the movie we’ve hoped she’d make, too.

Hollywood is not only the birthplace of entertainment and thrill but is also synonymous with glamour, beauty, and iconic red carpet looks. Since the inception of the film industry and entertainment, makeup and beauty have been two of the defining features of the world, ruled by unhealthy social norms and expectations. However, in contemporary times figures have emerged who have challenged these features and outright dismissed them. And Pamela Anderson has become the flagbearer of such a movement in recent times.

Known for her bombshell blonde hair, smokey-eye glamorous looks, and pencil-thin eyebrows, the Baywatch star has long been celebrated for her striking features and iconic looks. Yet, the actress has turned a new leaf as she has kick-started the ‘no-makeup revolution.’ Since the last year or two, the actress has ditched makeup and embraced her natural self, taking a bold step in defining beauty.

Pamela Anderson returns to the screen in The Last Showgirl, and the trailer for the film has landed. Right here.
Pamela Anderson will always be indelibly intertwined with Baywatch, the campy drama in which she starred for five series between between 1992 and 1997, returning for a cameo in the 2017 feature film.
But she also ventured into other films too. She starred in cult superhero film Barb Wire in 1996, and she also had a memorable cameo in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat. In fact, she was one of the few actors in on the gag where the titular character attempts to marry her by ensconcing her in a sack and carrying her out of her book signing.
She has made only sporadic appearances onscreen in recent years though, but now Pamela Anderson is getting awards buzz for her leading performance in The Last Showgirl.

After becoming one of the most frequent cover models for Playboy in the late 1980s, Pamela Anderson soon found her footing in showbiz, as her stint on Baywatch made her one of the biggest sex symbols of the ’90s. However, this contributed to the actress being typecast into roles that demanded sex appeal, and in the long run, it took a toll on her.

Pamela Anderson had no idea that another pop culture icon, Beyoncé, would pay tribute to her. Anderson, who’s been earning raves in her role as a veteran Vegas performer in the upcoming film “The Last Showgirl,” told Variety that Beyoncé’s “Beywatch” video (in which she channels Anderson) — and the attention that ensued — was completely unexpected. “I had no idea she was going to do that,” Anderson says. “I saw it at the same time everybody else did.”
In the video, Beyoncé encouraged people to vote while donning some of Anderson’s memorable looks from “Baywatch” (with a red swimsuit that read “Beywatch”), the cult classic film “Barb Wire” and Anderson’s iconic look at 1999 MTV VMA Awards (complete with fluffy pink hat).

On Tuesday, Beyoncé shared the first music video from Cowboy Carter, channeling Halloween and Election Day at once. In it, she donned three iconic Pamela Anderson looks. Now, the actress has celebrated them on her own Instagram stories. “Don’t call me bey… [kissy face emoji],” she wrote while sharing Beyonce’s mock movie poster in which she cosplayed Anderson’s character in the 1996’s high octane sci-fi Barb Wire. Anderson also posted a clip of the video with Beyoncé going full Pam.

Beyoncé pays tribute to Pamela Anderson as she encourages everyone to vote in an Election Day (and rare) music video. Titled “Beywatch,” Queen Bey channeled Anderson in the video set to “Bodyguard”, a track from her country Cowboy Carter album released in March.
In it, she channels Anderson’s looks from the 1996 film Barb Wire and TV series Baywatch. In the visual, there’s a quick look at her firing her Barb Wire gun to show the word “Vote.” She’s also seen in her own take on Anderson’s iconic red bathing suit with the word “Beywatch” instead of “Baywatch.” Another shot has her wearing a version of Anderson’s outfit from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, which included a wide-brimmed fuzzy pink hat, white corset, and sequined leggings.
The video ends with onscreen text that reads “Happy Beylloween” and the word “Vote.”

Blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson had plenty of opportunities for her net worth to skyrocket throughout her career—spanning from Playboy to Baywatch. However, after a series of financial missteps, failed marriages, and her infamous s*x tape scandal with ex-husband Tommy Lee, Anderson’s net worth shrunk down to a sum that isn’t even close to what it used to be.

Before we proceed to dissect her net worth, let’s learn what it actually means. To simply put, net worth is the total value of what you own (your assets) minus what you owe (your liabilities). So, in the case of the Canada native Pamela Anderson—her humble beginning, followed by her Baywatch appearance, and other ventures—subtracting her debts and unpaid taxes, gives an estimated net worth of $20M.

Humphrey Bogart was one of the world's greatest movie stars, a talented actor with incredible screen presence who made dozens of films throughout his career. Some of them are timeless classics that changed the face of cinema, like the 1941 noir film "The Maltese Falcon" and the 1948 Western "The Treasure of Sierra Madre." He eventually won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 1951 romantic adventure film "The African Queen," in which he had to contend with not only the notoriously feisty Katharine Hepburn but also real live leeches. There's one movie that's considered practically perfect, however. So perfect, in fact, that it has a 99% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, barring just a single negative review.
There are plenty of Bogart movies to enjoy out there, but just one of them managed to cement itself in our collective consciousness in such a profound way. This film won the Academy Awards for Best Picture,...

When it comes to superhero movies, we often see lists ranking the best ones ever made. Superhero films only started being seen as good in the last decade, thanks to better CGI and effects that made superheroes look less cheesy on screen.
But before ‘Endgame’ and ‘Dark Knight,’ there were plenty of bad superhero adaptations. Some are so bad they’re still laughed at today. Fans on Ranker gathered and cast over 500K votes to decide: What’s the worst superhero movie ever?
10. ‘The Fantastic Four’ (1994)
Just by looking at the costumes and Thing’s latex suit in ‘The Fantastic Four’ (1994), you can tell what direction it’s headed. The film was so poor that it never saw an official release, though copies can still be found with some effort. Surprisingly, despite its objective flaws, it’s not terrible enough to be shelved forever. Certain aspects, like its script and...

Speaking of superhero movies, we’re often dealing with “top 10” lists in terms of the greatest movies ever made. Superhero movies started being considered “good” only during the last decade when advances in CGI and practical effects allowed superheroes not to look extremely corny on-screen.
But, before ‘Endgame’ and ‘Dark Knight’ there was a series of bad superhero adaptations, some of which are so bad they are relentlessly mocked even today. Fans gathered on Ranker and cast over 500K votes to determine, what is the worst superhero movie of all time?
10. ‘The Fantastic Four’ (1994)
Honestly, just looking at these costumes and Thing’s latex suit you can see where this is going. ‘The Fantastic Four’ (1994), was so bad it never got released. You can however obtain a copy if you look hard enough. The sad thing is, despite the movie objectively being bad, it’s not that bad to be shelved forever.

There is, a critic will argue, a great deal of value in finding and discussing the worst films of the year. All the films released in a given epoch are a reflection of the trends and ideas that produced them, and scoring the bottom of the barrel for the worst filmmaking, the worst ideas, and the most misguided thinking will provide a valuable analysis of where we are as a society. Worst-of lists are important and vital and should be written with enthusiasm. They also let critics blow off steam a little bit; we don't have the luxury to skip bad movies or avoid talking about the ones we hate. It's our job.
The Golden Raspberries, or the Razzies for short, however, lost sight of that value a while back. The annual Razzies announcement is usually a snarky affair that only serves to pick on the year's least popular blockbusters,...

Pamela Anderson is returning to the big screen. The “Barb Wire” and “Baywatch” star is set to lead Gia Coppola’s third feature film “The Last Showgirl,” described as a redemption story about an aging Las Vegas dancer looking to connect with her adult daughter after her show is abruptly canceled. Seemingly part “Hacks” and part “The Wrestler,” the film is written by “Up Here” and “The Good Place” scribe Kate Gersten and directed by Coppola.
“The Last Showgirl” marks Anderson’s first lead role in years, and her latest feature after 2022’s “Alone at Night.” In addition to Anderson, the star-studded cast includes Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd.
The official logline for the film reads: “A seasoned showgirl (Anderson) must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a thirty-year run. As a dancer in her fifties, she...

Despite reports that audiences are losing interest in sex scenes, the Netflix viewership charts are preaching the opposite. A Brazilian erotic thriller called "Burning Betrayal" recently hit the streaming platform, and is popping up on the top 10 charts across the globe. Perhaps it's the result of "Fair Play" dominating the charts at the end of September 2023, motivating viewers to look for even more tantalizing thrills. "Burning Betrayal" more than delivers on eroticism, as the first five minutes of the film boldly features graphic sex scenes, presented in a way that tricks the brain into thinking they might not be simulated.
Directed by Diego Freitas ("Beyond the Universe") and adapted from Sue Hecker's novel "O Lado Bom de Ser Traída" (rough translation: "The Good Side of Being Betrayed"), the film follows Babi (Giovanna Lancellotti), a successful accountant soon to be married, but feeling like she hasn't yet lived her life.

‘Baywatch’ star Pamela Anderson, whose ’90s glam became legendary all on its own, has been rocking a stripped-down look as of late. Pamela stuck to the basics throughout Paris Fashion Week, opting for a makeup-free style at several major shows, reports etonline.
“It’s all about self-acceptance,” Pamela told i-d magazine while attending Victoria Beckham’s runway show on September 29.
“This is the chapter of my life I’m trying to embrace now. Since I really walk out the door as me, I feel relief – a weight off my shoulders…. I’m dressing for me now, not for everybody else.”
Pamela shared her confidence-boosting mantra.
“You just have to understand that you’re good enough and that you are beautiful,” she noted.
“I like to say the word, ‘life-ing’ instead of aging. Chasing youth is just futile.”

Chicago – How about a Pamela-thon for Valentine’s Day? The 1990s sex symbol Pamela Anderson is going through a current revival with two TV works about her life and a major book release. Photographer Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com went through his archives and found four Exclusive Portraits of Pa from 2010.

Following the release of her documentary and memoir, Pamela Anderson is opening up about her family’s response, working with Playboy and her previous controversial #MeToo comments.
In an Interview magazine story, published online Wednesday, the Baywatch actress defended her comments from a November 2017 interview with Megyn Kelly on the Today show, where she indicated that women need to protect themselves more, saying, “You know what you’re getting into when you go to a hotel room alone.”
“I could even take it a step further,” Anderson said in her recent interview. “My mother would tell me — and I think this is the kind of feminism I grew up with — it takes two to tango. Believe me, I’ve been in many situations where it’s like, ‘Come in here little girl, sit on the bed.’ But my mom would say, ‘If someone answers the door in a hotel robe...

Between the Netflix documentary “Pamela, A Love Story” and the memoir “Love, Pamela” from HarperCollins, Pamela Anderson has been spilling plenty of tea, including some embarrassing, ’90s-era anecdotes about Tim Allen and Sylvester Stallone. And while both actors have emphatically denied Anderson’s claims, director Ryan White is pushing back in defense of his leading lady.
“Of course, I totally believe Pamela because I think she’s always honest in everything — about her own shortcomings, but also about other people’s,” White tells Variety in response to Allen and Stallone’s denials. “That was our conversation at the beginning of this [process]. She was, ‘I spent so much of my life protecting other people. And I’m not I’m trying not to do that as much anymore.’”
Anderson’s candor has ruffled feathers. In the memoir, which hits shelves Tuesday, she says that Allen flashed her on the set of “Home Improvement” in 1991. “[He was] completely naked,...

Pamela Anderson makes heaven a place on earth. The 55-year-old bombshell serves up all the 90s beauty nostalgia in the latest Heaven by Marc Jacobs campaign. In one of the images, Pamela seductively lays atop of a giant orange flower wearing a white knit dress, styled with matching arm warmers and pointed-toe Pvc heels, as she holds a blue and purple watercolored shoulder bag. “The bedroom was a set that just kept on giving,” says Ethan Tobman, the production designer for Hulu’s limited series “Pam & Tommy.” “Very early on I found a suite inside a luxury yacht. Something about the fact that these lives came undone on a boat, and the excess of the 90s, and the nouveau riche of Hollywood stardom that this couple experienced just brought me to this excessive bedroom on the water. I can’t believe I got to build a bed that was 24 feet wide and 16 feet deep.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

“The thing for me going into this project was that we were recreating real people that are real in this world and that are still around today. If you Google Pamela Anderson right now, some of the first autocomplete results are "Pamela Anderson marriage," "Pamela Anderson kids," and "Pamela Anderson miscarriage." If Google didn't remove sexually explicit autocomplete predictions, chances are "Pamela Anderson sex tape" would be on the list as well. Thanks to Hulu's recent "Pam & Tommy" miniseries starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan in the titular roles, the public's interest in Anderson's life has been reignited - especially surrounding the infamous release of her and then-husband Lee's explicit homemade videos against her will.
For the most part, "Pam & Tommy" is an accurate retelling of Anderson and Lee's story. It recounts how, in 1995, Rand Gauthier - a jilted electrician Lee fired - stole a safe from the couple's Malibu, CA, home after Lee refused to pay him for his services. Gauthier figured he could sell the valuables inside to recoup what he was owed,...

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers for “Destroyer of Worlds,” Episode 7 of “Pam & Tommy,” now streaming on Hulu.
While “Pam and Tommy” has given quite an intense peek into the life of Pamela Anderson, there isn’t a closer examination at her career ups and downs than Episode 7, the second one directed by Lake Bell.
First, there’s the promotion of her 1996 movie, “Barb Wire,” during which Anderson (portrayed by Lily James) was interrogated by the press about her sex tape with Tommy Lee, instead of her acting. The Hulu series allowed the recreation of the film — which meant they brought in some of the original stars, including Clint Howard.
“That was the stuff of dreams,” Bell says. “Everyone were such great sports, to be honest, because in the scene that we chose, the original actors were kind of like, ‘Yeah, I’ll come in!’ They just had a...

Netflix is currently set to make a documentary on Anna Nicole Smith, and Hulu's ongoing limited series "Pam & Tommy" have many rethinking their views on how we treated beautiful, blonde, women in the 1990s. When hairstylist Barry Lee Moe took on the job of turning Sebastian Stan into Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, he thought a wig would help embody the 1990s rocker’s look. But for Hulu’s limited series “Pam & Tommy,” which premieres Feb. 2 on Hulu, Stan wanted the freedom to touch his hair and feel it. “He wanted it to feel lived in,” explains Moe.
Since these conversations were occurring months before filming, Moe asked Stan to grow out his hair so they could move forward without a wig and get the perfect cut and color. He took Stan to Harper Salon on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles to get his hair treated with a Brazilian straightening process. “We did that to eliminate his texture because his was different from Tommy’s,” says Moe.

2019 was an unparalleled year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which became the first film franchise to release three separate billion-dollar grossing entries in a single year, and the first franchise to cross the $18 billion milestone on its way to a staggering $22 billion haul by year’s end. It also brought us the highest-grossing movie of all-time with Avengers: Endgame‘s squeaking past James Cameron’s 2009 effort Avatar with a worldwide gross of $2.7978 billion.
Captain Marvel, the first of those billion-dollar releases, was ironically, if only barely, the lowest grossing film of the three. Certainly not the first to feature an eponymous female superhero, the pic was the latest in a long, inconsistent line of such movies, including Patty Jenkins’ hugely popular 2017 film Wonder Woman and Pitof Comer’s notorious 2004 Razzie “winner” Catwoman, as well as 2005’s Elektra and Æon Flux, 1996’s Barb Wire, 1995’s Tank Girl, and 1984’s Supergirl.
