Throughout the series the producers used stylized visual sequences to illustrate Sam's intuitive leaps. Because the show debuted at the same time as the similarly themed Millennium (1996), which stared a profiler with actual psychic abilities illustrated with similar stylized segments, many assumed that Sam was supposed to be psychic. In reality the flashes were never supposed to be psychic. Instead they were supposed to illustrate Sam's thought process as she made intuitive leaps. See more »
The actor Dennis Christopher, who plays "Jack", is never credited as Dennis Christopher, the credits just say "and jack". This is because the identity of Jack is a secret (for the characters in the series, they don't know who he is), his identity is unmasked in the first two episodes of the 4th season, from this moment he is credited as "dennis christopher as jack" in the credits. (There are two episodes, where he is credited in his role as "Albert Newquay", in fact, "Albert Newquay" is "Jack", also revealed in the meantioned episodes). See more »
Dr. Sam Waters (Ally Walker) is a detective with the Violent Crimes Task Force. It's a federal agency which often works with the FBI, ATF, and other crime-solving agencies.
It's a pretty simple dark crime procedural with a continuing manhunt for a killer known as Jack of All Trades. Ally Walker has enough presence to lead this show. It also had Julian McMahon, and Robert Davi as star actors. It was a pretty good show at the start, but generally declined as it went on. It lasted 4 seasons. The show really deteriorated in the 3rd season, and then Ally Walker leaves the show and destroys what was left.
