‘The Sandlot’ Turns 25: From Smalls to Squints, Where Are They Now? (Photos)

‘The Sandlot’ Turns 25: From Smalls to Squints, Where Are They Now? (Photos)
At the end of “The Sandlot,” the narrator explains how each of the kids ended up as each one fades from the screen. Some moved away, Benny the Jet made it to the big leagues, and Squints married Wendy Peffercorn. Earlier, TheWrap explored why some movies will be remembered but “The Sandlot” will never die. But 25 years later, we’ll explore where the film’s actors actually ended up.

Tom Guiry – Scotty Smalls

After making his film debut with “The Sandlot,” Tom Guiry continued to pursue acting and landed roles in “Mystic River,” “The Revenant” and “Black Hawk Down.” He most recently starred in “Wonder Wheel” and “Sollers Point.”

Mike Vitar – Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez

Mike Vitar continued his reputation as a sporty, teen heartthrob by appearing in both “Mighty Ducks” sequels “D2” and “D3.” His last acting role was in 1997 for a show called “Chicago Hope,” at which point he retired and became a firefighter. But in 2015, Vitar was charged with assault and reached a plea deal to avoid time behind bars in 2017.

Chauncey Leopardi – Squints

Leopardi spoke with TheWrap and says he’s keeping busy with a family and some businesses, as well as appearing at events for “The Sandlot” whenever he can. As an actor he’s also starred in “Freaks and Geeks,” “Gilmore Girls” and most recently “Coldwater” in 2013.

Patrick Renna – Ham

Originally from Boston, Patrick Renna still acts. Outside of “The Sandlot,” he had a memorable leading role in “The Big Green” while still young. More recently, he starred in episodes of “Boston Legal,” “Judging Amy” and 2016’s “Fear, Inc.”

Marty York – Yeah-Yeah

In addition to seriously bulking up, Marty York appeared in episodes of “Boy Meets World” and “The Eric Andre Show.”

Brandon Quintin Adams – Kenny DeNunez

Brandon Quintin Adams, also just Brandon Adams, had small roles in other ’90s hits “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Sister-Sister” and “Moesha.” He also did a voice for “Kingdom Hearts 2” and has recorded music as a rapper under the name B. Lee.

Grant Gelt – Bertram Grover Weeks

Grant Gelt had a few acting roles after “The Sandlot,” including “Boy Meets World” and “Hey Arnold!,” but he now works as a music manager.

Victor Dimattia – Timmy Timmons

Victor Dimattia went on two direct two short films and appeared in the 2018 indie “Get Married Or Die.”

Shane Obedzinski – Tommy “Repeat” Timmons

Unlike his onscreen counterpart, Shane Obedzinski didn’t directly follow in the footsteps of his onscreen brother. After leaving acting, he opened a pizza shop in Florida, but was glad to join in for the 20th anniversary festivities.

Marley Shelton – Wendy Peffercorn

Marley Shelton, who played the lifeguard all the boys are gaga over in “The Sandlot” Wendy Peffercorn, has starred in “Sin City,” “Planet Terror,” “Never Been Kissed,” “Death Proof,” “Scream 4” and more. She currently stars on the series “Rise” and will next be seen in Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage.”

Denis Leary – Bill, Scott’s Stepdad

Taking a role as a fairly straight-laced, if imposing stepdad was a departure for the firebrand comedian back in 1993, but he would eventually move into far more dramatic roles on “Rescue Me” and more. And thankfully, he’s still a fan of “The Sandlot.”

Karen Allen – Scott’s Mom

Following “The Sandlot,” Karen Allen would reprise her more famous role as Marion in “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.” She most recently starred in “Year by the Sea” in 2016.

James Earl Jones – Mr. Mertle

It’s like he never really left!

Carissa's Corner: Roseanne, Flyover States and the Nostalgia Factor

Up front, you need to know talking politics isn't my thing.

They're going to make a bit of an appearance in this Carissa's Corner, though, just by the nature of the topic. Bear with me!

It came to no surprise to TV Fanatics that the Roseanne revival premiere soared in the ratings. Everything relating to it has been indicating the revival was highly anticipated.

The question I have is why Hollywood seems to be so stunned at the ratings' success.

During the 2016 election process, if there was one thing that became clear, it was that a large part of the United States felt under-represented. Despite the candidate or his political views, people were grasping for representation they felt they didn't have in public office.

Can the same be said for the terrific ratings Roseanne received on Tuesday? That will depend on the ratings for the remainder of the season.

A good indicator for Roseanne,

Either way, it's time we celebrate Jon's gorgeous features, which we're so blessed to have on our TV screens each week. Issa Rae and HBO’s Casey Bloys on How ‘Insecure’ Is Like ‘Golden Girls’

“Insecure” is about two young black women. “The Golden Girls” was about four old white ladies. So it drew a few laughs Tuesday night when HBO programming president Casey Bloys invoked the latter show when talking about one his favorite elements of the former Tuesday night at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills.

“The fantasy of ‘Golden Girls,'” Bloys began, as the audience broke into heavy laughter. “Hear me out. I’m trying to make a point. The fantasy of ‘Golden Girls’ is that even at the end, you had your girlfriends with you, and I think that’s a very important part of this show.” He likened the relationship between the four women on “Golden Girls” to the friendship between the characters Issa and Molly on “Insecure.”

“First of all, thank you for being a friend,” Rae responded.

Bloys and Rae appeared together Tuesday night for a Paley Media Council conversation, in

‘Black-ish,’ ‘Insecure,’ and Others Aren’t Just ‘Black Shows,’ As Nielsen Study Proves
As the nation becomes increasingly divided, a small piece of encouraging news comes from, of all places, Nielsen: A new study shows that several programs predominantly African-American casts also boast a large percentage of white viewers.

The new roster of diverse series that have found cross-cultural appeal include ABC’s “Black-ish” and HBO’s “Insecure.” Around 79% of the”Black-ish” audience is non-black, while the “Insecure” audience is 61% non-black.

Black-ish” is a huge hit for ABC: It stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross as parents of a growing family who struggle to create a sense of black identity for their kids while living in a wealthy, predominantly white neighborhood. “Insecure,” created by Issa Rae and inspired by her web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,” is about a young African-American woman in Los Angeles, her friendships, and how it’s sometimes hard to make the right decisions.
