Whenever Jamie Foxx steps up to a microphone, one can expect to be entertained.
And that’s precisely what the Oscar and Grammy-winning superstar plans to do when he hits the road to discuss the circumstances around his sudden hospitalization nearly a year ago.
On Sunday afternoon, Foxx offered attendees of the African American Film Critics Association’s (Aafca) Special Achievement Awards luncheon a sneak peek at the tone of that material — a mix of heartfelt reflection with some top-notch zingers — while accepting Aafca’s Producers Award alongside his Foxxhole Productions partner Datari Turner.
2023 was a big year for the company thanks to the back-to-back successes of Netflix’s “They Cloned Tyrone” and Amazon’s “The Burial.” But while Foxxhole’s movies were shooting to the top of the streaming charts, Foxx was fighting for his life after suffering a medical emergency — the nature of which has not been disclosed.

Janine Sherman Barrois remembers being one of the only Black people in the writers’ room — or on set — when she began in television more than 20 years ago. At the time, she was grateful to get a seat at the table, given how few opportunities there were for Black women in Hollywood.
Fast-forward to 2022, and Sherman Barrois acknowledges there are more powerful Black women on camera and off (like her idols Shonda Rhimes and Oprah Winfrey). But there are still so many diverse creators who haven’t been empowered enough to get their big break.
That’s one of the missions behind her new production banner, Folding Chair Prods., which she has launched at Warner Bros. Television Group (where Sherman Barrois has held several overall deals since 2015). Nikita S. Adams, previously an agent at Paradigm Talent Agency and A3 Artists Agency, has been hired to serve as Folding Chair’s new head of television.

AMC Networks is in the midst of rebranding Umc, or Urban Movie Network, the SVOD service founded by BET founder Robert L. Johnson in February of 2015. Now titled Allblk, the streaming platform features “urban-themed” series and movies, including the channel’s library of live stand-up performances by Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx and Charlie Murphy, as well documentary films, reality series and stage plays. After 25 years with the studio, Warner Bros. Television executive vice president of current programming Melinda Hage is retiring.
She has managed programming for scripted series from “The Jamie Foxx Show” to “Murphy Brown” to “The Leftovers” to “Riverdale” over the course of her career, with her team currently overseeing about 45 drama and comedy series. After starting her career at Viacom and Columbia Pictures Television, Hage joined Wbtv as an assistant in comedy development in 1994 – the year that “Friends” and “ER” debuted – before discovering her love of current programming, which she calls “the perfect marriage” of creative and production.
“Once I got in it, I thought, this is it, this is what I will do until I retire and I’m not working in the industry anymore,” she told Variety, crediting Wbtv president and chief content officer Peter Roth with believing in and supporting the department.

The answer came after Landon encouraged Mg to take a spring break road trip to his hometown, where we learned that Mg’s religious father had no idea his son was reborn as a vampire. Part of the “arrangement” Mg’s mother made with Alaric was that the Salvatore School would protect her son and keep his undead status a secret from the world. Had Alaric foreseen the events of this episode,...
