After the opening sketch, in which Carvey played Bill Clinton breastfeeding animals, six million viewers changed the channel and the ratings never recovered. According to Stephen Colbert, the next day, Carvey apologized to the cast and crew for ruining their careers.
Jimmy Fallon auditioned to join the cast. Louis C.K. admitted to Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2014) that he refused to hire Fallon because he was jealous of Fallon's looks. According to C.K., the show's female staffers wanted Fallon to be cast but he adamantly refused and threatened to quit if Fallon was hired.
Eight episodes were produced but ABC canceled the series after seven episodes aired due to low ratings. The sketches from the final episode were reworked into sketches for an 1996 episode of "Saturday Night Live" which Carvey hosted.
The first six episodes featured the name of the show's sponsor in the show's title. Dana Carvey wanted this as an homage to variety shows of the 1950's and 60's that had their sponsors' names in their titles.
