Storyline

After jointly winning a local drag queen pageant in New York City, Noxeema Jackson and Vida Boheme win the right and are given the round trip airfare to compete in the Drag Queen of America pageant in Hollywood, California. Noxeema sees herself as the next Dorothy Dandridge, who bucked the trend of most black American movie actresses of her time by never playing the slave house maid. Vida's style reflects her past of growing up in upper class suburban Pennsylvania. One of their fellow New York City contestants, Chi-Chi Rodriguez, is a straight-talking, but naive and inexperienced drag queen. Seeing that Chi-Chi needs some drag queen confidence (despite her bravada), Vida and a reluctant Noxeema decide to cash in their plane tickets and buy an older model Cadillac convertible and drive to Hollywood with Chi-Chi. Their drive takes them through much of the country where alternate lifestyles are less tolerated than they may be in New York City or Los Angeles. The three have an extended ... Written by Huggo

Trivia

According to John Leguizamo in his autobiography, his frequent improvisation angered Patrick Swayze so much, that Swayze tried to punch him in the face. See more »

Goofs

During the "Brick House" montage where the girls in the car are making hand gestures to the people in the train, you can clearly see that Patrick Swayze's character has his hands of the steering wheel for an extended amount of time, yet the car continues to drive straight - making it obvious that the girl's Cadillac is being pulled by a rig. I never liked any of these guys...UNTIL NOW!!!
28 February 2003 | by enjoli2uSee all my reviews

I never thought that any of these guys could act until I saw this movie. They are very talented. I have, since seeing this film, paid a lot closer attention to all of their work as actors. They deserve a bigger credit than most of them get professionally speaking. Snipes and Swayze are both known mostly because of their talents in action films. I enjoy their muscles too, but MAN! Can they act or what? John L. is known for his comedy but he proves that he is crediable in a dramatic role. I recommend this film for everyone that is into talent.
