Storyline

Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city's violence as it's rushed into his ER -until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts for his family's assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media's attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel...or a grim reaper. Trivia

Eli Roth was a huge fan of Dean Norris from Breaking Bad (2008), and at one point was going to get second dog and name him after Norris' character Hank Schraeder. Roth had confessed this to Norris at a party years ago, and Norris did not forget. Although Roth only has one dog (Monkey) he still swears that his second dog will be named Hank Schraeder. Goofs

Kersey's daughter is released from the hospital and within a week her trachea has seemingly healed up. She isn't suffering from any muscle atrophy and/or psychological problems as a result of this heinous crime. She's very well adjusted. See more »

Quotes

Ben: People rely on the police to keep them safe. That's the problem. The police only arrive after the crime has taken place. That's like. Trapping the fox as he's comin' out of the hen house. If a man really wants to protect what's his. He has to do it for himself.

Crazy Credits

When the title is shown on screen, it is faded away by the image of "flatlining" on a medical monitor. This effect is used in the closing credits as well. See more »

Alternate Versions

The Indian release was censored, in order to obtain a UA rating the distributor chose to remove stronger instances of violence and injuries; (sight of a bullet being removed from a man's hand, blood splattering from a man's head as he's shot, a man's head being crushed as a car collapses, the stitching of a bullet wound in a man's shoulder and the torture scene involving break fluid). Further visual and audio changes were made which included the muting of strong language during a rap song and the blurring of bottles of liquor. See more »

User Reviews

Solid revenge thriller
19 August 2018 | by Luigi Di PillaSee all my reviews

I enjoyed it with my wife. It was entertaining and same time it offered some funny scenes. The story is well adapted for Bruce Willis and the running time was perfect. It's a fast paced thriller with lot of suspense. This is another example how movies of nowadays should be done. I give a 7 and my wife 6/10 = 6.5
