William Wallace is a Scottish rebel who leads an uprising against the cruel English ruler Edward the Longshanks, who wishes to inherit the crown of Scotland for himself. When he was a young boy, William Wallace's father and brother, along with many others, lost their lives trying to free Scotland. Glen Nevis, the Scottish valley which served as the location for Wallace's childhood village, also enjoys the heaviest rainfall in Europe. During the six weeks spent filming in the area, only three days of sunshine occurred, during which the wedding scene was finished. Goofs
During the first large battle between the Scots and the English, there is a clear, quick shot of an English soldier getting quite eviscerated on the right side of his body. For a fraction of a second, you can see a couple drops of blood splatter against some sort of protective glass between the camera and the soldier. See more »

As a work of fiction, marvellous, unlike anything I've seen before, but as a movie based on real events, I must say that the historical inaccuracies are a major turn-off. Had it not been for the inaccuracies, this movie certainly deserves a 9. Regardless, it is without a doubt a must-watch so long as the viewer watches with discretion that it is only extremely loosely based on real events.
