Trivia

Glen Nevis, the Scottish valley which served as the location for Wallace's childhood village, also enjoys the heaviest rainfall in Europe. During the six weeks spent filming in the area, only three days of sunshine occurred, during which the wedding scene was finished. The filmmakers resigned themselves to the fact that constant rain was inevitable, and opted to film scenes regardless of weather conditions. See more »

Goofs

During the first large battle between the Scots and the English, there is a clear, quick shot of an English soldier getting quite eviscerated on the right side of his body. For a fraction of a second, you can see a couple drops of blood splatter against some sort of protective glass between the camera and the soldier. See more »

Quotes

Narrator: I shall tell you of William Wallace. Historians from England will say I am a liar, but history is written by those who have hanged heroes. The king of Scotland had died without a son, and the king of England, a cruel pagan known as Edward the Longshanks, claimed the throne of Scotland for himself. User Reviews

A thriller!
27 February 2020 | by jayholmeshjSee all my reviews

As a work of fiction, marvellous, unlike anything I've seen before, but as a movie based on real events, I must say that the historical inaccuracies are a major turn-off. Had it not been for the inaccuracies, this movie certainly deserves a 9. Regardless, it is without a doubt a must-watch so long as the viewer watches with discretion that it is only extremely loosely based on real events.
