Profound
I remember watching this and loving it even as I made fun of how ridiculous some of it was. My mother couldn't understand my fascination with this "foolishness." I know now that I enjoyed it so much because Xena represented posibilites. Though it was a mythology about a mythological character the visuals of a woman leader with such fierceness who plotted her own path and bested the biggest warriors of her world was empowering little girls to charter paths that they dictate; and become leaders while doing it looking as beautiful and sexy as she was.
Xena bucked the stereotypes of the weaker sex not by saying women are necessarily as physically strong as men, but capable regardless. And she did this without mind games and overly sexualizing her attacks at every turn. She used everything she had and that's ok. Because, what good are we if we don't use every gift we have to self actualize and become our best selves and ultimately the world.
