Storyline

The story begins with Spanky, who is the president of the "He-Man Woman Haters Club" with many school-aged boys from around the neighborhood as members. His best friend, Alfalfa, has been chosen as the driver for the club's prize-winning go-kart, called "The Blur", in the annual Soap Box Derby style race. However, when the announcement is made, Alfalfa is nowhere to be found. The boys catch Alfalfa in the company of Darla -- "a girl!" Alfalfa isn't like his friends because he's in love with Darla, and unfortunately threatens the very existence of their "boys only" club. The club's members try their hardest to break the two apart, eventually causing their beloved clubhouse to burn down. Darla is mistakenly led to believe Alfalfa feels ashamed of her, so she turns her attentions to Waldo, the new rich kid whose father is an oil tycoon. Further trouble ensures when their prized go-cart "The Blur" is stolen by local neighborhood bullies Butch and Woim. How can they win the big race and ... Goofs

Before Darla kisses Alfalfa in the boat, she flattens down his cowlick (at 10:53 on the DVD) but in the next shot (from behind Alfalfa at 10:56) it is still standing up. It then *pings* back up in the next shot (at around 59 mins). The cowlick is only visible at 10:56 in Full Frame format remastered from the original "spherical" (non-anamorphic) 35 mm negatives and is not visible in the Wide Screen format (which does not show the full height of the negatives). It is not a goof by the film makers, but rather by those who released the film in Full Frame format. See more »

brats run amok
18 October 2000 | by See all my reviews

I laughed my head off at these ill behaved little rapscallions. However, in the real world I would have cheerfully kicked their rascally little butts. Nothing realistic about the behavior of these kids at all, but I don't think that was intended. Lots of zany antics [some re-done from the old shorts from years back] and many belly laughs left me feeling good after the film was over. Thumbs up.
