Excellent. Very representative of the actual situation in Cuba
25 October 1998 | by fredtwerSee all my reviews

This is a very ingenious plot, combining elements from reality and fiction, Tomas Gutierrez Alea (Titon) shows the whole isle of Cuba and the socio-economic environment after the Cuban dollarization, the contrast between the dogmatic official position, and the hard reality of the Cuban people. Is a great monument to all anonimous Cubans struggling day after day for surviving in a very dogmatic and unfair society. To me it is very difficult to believe that the Cuban government let this movie be produced inside of Cuba, knowing that they try to control any negative information outside of the country about the Cuban society. I think that this was the last Titon movie, he passed during the movie filmation. Directing this movie inside Cuba should be a riskiy issue.
