Jack Hammond is sentenced to life in prison, but manages to escape. To get away from the police he takes a girl as hostage and drives off in her car. The girl happens to be the only daughter of one of the richest men in the state. In a while the car chase is being broadcast live on every TV-channel, covering the event from helicopters, the backseat of a police car, the pavement of the highway etc.

The border crossing scene which was a stand in for the San Ysidro Port of Entry was filmed at the Hardy Toll Road North Toll Plaza a few miles south of Interstate 45 from the Montgomery County line; at the time of filming this section of the Hardy Toll Road was still under construction. On July 16, 2016 the Harris County Toll Road Authority demolished the toll booth (along with the one south of Beltway 8 adjacent to Bush Intercontinental Airport) making the entire stretch of the Hardy Toll Road electronically tolled (which includes the opening of the interchange connecting the Hardy Toll Road to the Grand Parkway Segment G, which connects Interstate 45 with Interstate 69/US 59 (Eastex Freeway). The climax of the chase when the vehicles approach the border crossing is in fact the southbound lanes of the Hardy Toll Road. See more
