Toni's older sister, Paula and her boyfriend, Mark are smoking what appear to be either joints or cigarettes around Andre (it was cut from the VHS and laserdisc releases in 1995, but it's intact on the DVD).

There are some sad scenes and some mild thematic material, but this is a very fuzzy movie and is not scary whatsoever. Lots of hugs make up for some of the more upsetting moments, but it's very mild. This was one of the first PG movies to make PG a family rating (which would really do so the following year)
The same little girl suffers mild bullying in her school also (no violence but some emotional cruelty.)
